  • Lighting technologies – The dynamic lighting solution employed in GOW III is only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs. For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera – when using Krato's sightline - will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust.

Manufacturer's Description

Developed exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3 system, God of War III is the final instalment of the multi-million unit-selling trilogy. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's Santa Monica Studios, God of War III will bring epic battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos at the centre of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him.

Set in the realm of brutal Greek mythology, God of War III is a single-player game that allows players to take on the climatic role of the ex-Spartan warrior, Kratos, as he scales through the intimidating heights of Mt. Olympus and the dark depths of Hell to seek revenge on those who have betrayed him. Armed with double-chained blades, and an array of new weapons and magic for this iteration of the trilogy, Kratos must take on mythology's darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles throughout his merciless quest to destroy Olympus.

With texture resolutions quadrupling since God of War II on PlayStation 2, God of War III, in its debut on the PS3 system, will feature fluid, life-like characters, as well as dynamic lighting effects, a robust weapon system, and world-changing scenarios that will truly bring unmistakable realism to Kratos' fateful quest. Players will have a chance to join battles on a grand scale that is four times larger than its predecessor.

God of War III is a single player action game, exclusive to the PlayStation 3, and the final installment of the God of War trilogy. Containing signature and addictive God of War gameplay — a combination of over-the-top action combat, exploration and puzzle-solving — along with an engrossing mythologically inspired storyline and a selection of new weapons and a new weapons system, it is a fitting conclusion to the much praised God of War franchise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah, its pretty epic 19 Mar 2010
By A. GILL VINE VOICE
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Im going to keep this review short. Why? Because anyone who is planning on buying
this game will not care what anyone else thinks. You've seen the trailers, played
the demos and now its time to see yourself if it has lived up to everything.

GRAPHICS
This is on par with Uncharted 2, if not better in several places. Hands down
they are 2 of the best looking console games so far. Each has their own strengths,
GOW3 has amazing greek landscapes, temples, ruins, caves and the whole ancient look
going for it which really makes it look special. And the gore is on a new level.

GAMEPLAY
The tried and tested stuff here, if it aint broke dont fix it. More enemies, more
boss battles, more puzzles, a few new types of gameplay which i wont spoil but its
classic God Of War which all fans should be very familar with. There are a few new
weapons for Kratos to use but other than that its all back.

STORY
You continue where you left off. Most of the story is focused on your revenge, everything
you do is somehow contributing to your revenge against Zeus and the Gods. It ends in style,
it didnt feel like they patched it together like a lot of places have been saying.

DISLIKES
Not much to dislike here at all. Only on your second play through might you get a tad annoyed
as the cut scenes are not skippable, and the button pressing events do get tedious after you
have to watch the same type of enemy dying for another time. But that is it to be honest.

OVERALL
As a fan i couldn't ask for much more. Everything in this instalment has improved upon the
previous two in my opinion. This is a great trilogy and it ended with a bang, i feel satisfied
with the end result and im sure most people will do to. For me, this game is worthy of a 5/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic game in every sense of the word 29 Nov 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Of all the games I've got, this is one of my favourites. The game play and the storyline are both great. The action starts from the very beginning and keep you hooked until the very end. I would recommend everybody to buy this game. You certainly will not be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 7 July 2010
By Saturn
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I liked:
-The opening is epic. Kratos really hits the ground running in an epic fight with Gaia against Poseidon. The sense of scale and graphics at this point are very good.
-The gore. They don't hold back on this one. Some of the deaths are ridiculously gory, but also ridiculously satisfying. My faves are an eye-gouging, a decapitation with bare hands, and faces being smashed in.
-The combat is, most of the time, very good, and basically a more refined system than God of War 2. The weapon switching is done particularly well, as it can be done mid-combo, allowing for some deep attack combos.
-The setting and style are really good. Anyone who knows anything about Greek mythology will be surprised to see so many different beasts in a video game that are (reasonably) faithful to the mythos as a whole, even if the story isn't.

I disliked:
-The graphics and level design are quite inconsistent, some levels are great but others look like they obviously spent less time on them. The early levels are spectacular, but the middle levels are less so. Overall, it seems a little rushed, which is disappointing especially considering the short play time.
-The boss fights for Hermes and Helios are disappointing, and lack the imagination and amazing character design of Hades and Poseidon. I'd have preferred it if they spent more time on them rather than some of the less inspired levels.
-Is it necessary for Kratos to go to the Underworld again? He's already been there, seen it, got the T-Shirt. To me this felt like a way to stretch out the length of the campaign.
-Come to think of it, The game is pretty short - about 8 hours.
-It's a bit QTE-heavy for an 'action game'.
-Kratos is such a douche.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as you expect 28 July 2010
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
this is really great...i mean REALLY great!!! i was hooked as soon as i started it and did not move for about 7 hours. The game brings the legendary creatures to the HD screen. All the way through it is clear that this is a epic game and a even better story...... i was happy to later find out that the story is based upon true events also, which just intensified the game even more for me!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best 24 April 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is definitely one of the best games I have ever played, you really get a sense of how Kratos is desperate for vengeance while playing it, and taking down the gods of Olympus is so much fun! If there is one gripe I would say I had about the game, not much of a gripe because it doesn't make me dislike it at all, but it's the reliance on QTEs (Quick Time Events) those annoying "press this button in time" while frequent, they don't really get annoying. I have completed the game on Titan difficulty which was a REAL challenge, especially the Cerberus fight near the end of the game, wow that was tough! 100% of trophies including the platinum just proves how much this game means to me, anyone who doesn't have it needs to seriously consider buying it, don't wait, please go and buy it now.
