Product Description

In God of War, Kratos, after being deceived into killing his wife and daughter, denounced his service to Ares. In order to seek absolution from his past sins, the Ghost of Sparta pledged himself as a champion to the Gods for the years to follow. These brutal crusades, in the name of Olympus, became legendary throughout the ancient world. In God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos will journey to lands that no mortal has ever walked upon. With the world plunged in eternal darkness and the Gods rendered powerless, Kratos will face the most feared creatures of Greek Mythology, and ultimately be forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction. Developed from the outset as an original story, God of War: Chains of Olympus delivers highly detailed graphics, incredible animation detail and yet another adventure in the dark and brutal world of Greek mythology that fans of the God of War franchise have come to know and love. Critically-Acclaimed Franchise - Brought to you by Sony Computer Entertainment America and two award-winning development teams - Santa Monica Studios and Ready At Dawn Studios

  • Epic Gameplay on the PSP system - Keeping true to the God of War franchise, experience dramatic camera angles and epic set pieces, offering a never-before-seen experience
  • Mythological Odyssey - This story is set in a time before the events of God of War, where you will experience Kratos' journey during the 10-years of servitude to the Gods of Olympus
  • All New Combat Moves - Utilize new brutal combat moves along with their favorite combo attacks from the God of War franchise
  • Exploration - From the Gates of Hades to the Depths of Tartarus, Face-off against all new creatures from Greek Mythology and engage in epic boss battles
  • Puzzle Solving - Explore the ancient world, prepare to navigate through a labyrinth

Fun:
Once I picked it up I scarcely put it down again. Very addictive. Gameplay generally very good for a hack n slash, with a reliance on (a little finger-killing but still very doable) quick time events.

Graphics - For any game - pretty competent, but for a PSP particularly well done. They've chosen colours you can actually easiy see on the screen so it's possible to play on the train.

Gameplay - it's a button-bashing adventure where you add moves and weapons with experience - If that's your thing (in my case it is) it's very well packages and delivered.

The extra add-on missions are also a bit of a giggle.

Fun:
The PSP doesn't have as many games as some other consoles, but it has some fantastic ones. God of War: Chains of Olympus is no exception.

You play Kratos, and basically need to fight your way through a mythical world fighting the baddies along the way.

Firstly the graphics are superb. This is a great looking game, and certainly one of the best on the PSP. It isn't just the quality, it is the striking imagery that does it. The sound is also very good. Good use of dramatic music to really draw you in.

In terms of gameplay, I was a little surprised (I haven't played any of the other games in the franchise). You basically hack away at your enemies using a variety of gruesome moves and weapons until, with the bigger opponents, you get the opportunity to perform a "finish", which is basically where you press O, then the prompted buttons (pretty sharpish) to execute a sequence where your opponent is finished-off. This could involve tearing his/her head off, ramming your blade in the head, etc, etc. Pretty gruesome but higher entertaining (for well balanced adults!!) stuff. Imagine it is your boss and it becomes quite fun!

While it quite a linear game compared to some, there are also different puzzles to solve along the way to keep you thinking. These are a really good feature and along with the "O" prompt described above, really separate the game from a more typical hack and slash type fare.

The game itself is pretty short (probably took me 12 or 15 hours to get through but maybe because I died more than some!), but there is a reasonable amount of bonus material to work through if you are that way inclined. I am about to go through the game again on a higher skill level (I very rarely do that on games!) because although I have a bit of a backlog of games to play at the moment, this one is just so entertaining.

Overall, I think anyone over 18, who has a PSP should buy this (especially at the Platinum price).

Fun:
storyline, gameplay, graphics, sound, are all excellent, sound effects and music are so much better with earphones, and makes the game alot more emersive. only real gripe is that some parts of the game on normal mode drive you mad with frustration as they are ten times harder than surrounding scenes, easy mode on this game is so easy that it's almost like watching a movie. so if you want to play this game properly (normal mode) prepare to be frustrated on occassion.
I have completed this game on normal mode, and easy mode, I have also completed g.o.w 1,2,and 3 on the ps3. and this game is just as good as any of the ps3 titles
