I bought this book wanting a holiday read - the type of book that I can pick up, read a chapter, put down, and pick up again later.
I did not get what I wanted - David J Rodger's fiction is not written to read one chapter at a time. Each chapter leaves you on the egde of a cliff, too afraid to look over, but compelled against your will to do so.
A clever blend of Lovecraft influence, the desire for power, the fear of being in too deep, and a clevrly woven plot, intertwining characters each with a different agenda - all coming together for a terrifying and gripping climax.
This is the first book in what will hopefully and surely be a long and exciting career enjoyed by David J Rodger's new fans.
