All hail Stuart Murdoch
on 20 August 2014
Stuart Murdoch (Belle & Sebastian front man) makes his directorial debut with this truly wonderful film based on his 2009 musical side project of the same name, God Help the Girl.
I was lucky enough to get tickets for a special advance screening of this film on Sunday night at the GFT, which was followed by a director and cast Q&A.
Stuart gave a wonderful insight into just how long it took to get God Help the Girl onto the big screen from including the struggle to get financial backing to actually make the film. Luckily the kickstarter campaign helped get this up and running and they deserve massive credit for this.
The film itself is easily the best I have seen all year (even better than The Grand Budapest Hotel) and as a proud Glaswegian it is a thrill to see my home city on the big screen.
Its hard to talk about the film without posting spoilers but all I will say is I cant recommend this highly enough, from the musical sequences to the scenes shot in Super8 it is the best thing you will lay your eyes on this year and I will be going to see it again next week when it is on general cinema release.
