Product Description

With a lovely home and family, Annette Goode finally has it all. Heaven knows she has paid her dues - from an abusive childhood to a rocky start as an adult. Her friend Rhoda knows, too - she has been Annette's saviour and her greatest fear and their relationship has survived some serious shake-ups. But now that things are good, somebody obviously thinks they're a little too good. When Annette receives an anonymous - and menacing - birthday gift, it's only the beginning of a slew of hostile letters and vile packages and she's going to need all the support she can get. --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

I was excited to see that Mary Monroe had added another episode in the dramas of Annette and Rhoda. I would actually give this book 3.5 stars if i coud.

Firstly the good bits: The fact that the pair is together again was great, and made for great reading. Rhoda continues to support Annette as her marriage and sanity are put to the test when she receives hate mail and packages from someone wanting her to leave town. Rhoda's outwardly perfect marriage is also put under the microscope when we scratch the surface and see that not everything that glitters is gold. It's also great to see Pee Wee as a black man who is trying to save his marriage, is faithful, and loves his wife whatever size she is and whatever she puts him through. Many a man would have walked, but he doesn't and by the end of the book it simply comes down to the fact that he truly loves Annette.

The bad? In a nutshell Jade. Yes I know there are some spoiled young people in the world, but I found her character unbelievable and not couldn't get my head around it. Although on a positive note I have now added "joy juice" to my vocabulary.

Overall this book is not as great as the previous instalments, but there is enough to keep you guessing and wondering right up to the end.

3rd time lucky? 15 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
After reading the first two books from Miss Monroe, I was surprised to see another one. I immediately grabbed this up and started reading.
Although I enjoyed reading this book I found it predictable and repetitive.
I also think that the character Jade did not get her comeuppance, and I would have liked to see Rhoda's character to have been able to have found some strength within herself to deal with the matter at hand, instead of shielding away like she has done in the past two books.
Overall a good read but out of the three this one comes bottom.

I agree with the previous review. The book is an easy read, but very predictable. However, this has not put me off reading Monroe's books, the first two of this series were highly enjoyable.
