This manual is crammed full of unromanticised technical information while managing to remain eminently readable. There is a dry sense of humour accompanying descriptions of the innevitable difficulties in keeping goats which is heartening - maybe it is all worthwhile!
As someone about to embark upon buying a very small number of goats for family dairy use I am very, very grateful to the authors for providing answers to all the questions I had, plus some I had not thought of, in one book. The text covers the history of goat husbandry along with issues relating to housing, feeding, breeding, dairy and meat farming, harness goats, diseases, laws and even intermittent insights into goat psychology.
I literally read the book cover to cover, although would imagine that more experienced farmers/smallholders would still find value in dipping in and out of pertinent sections. I would heartily recommend this book to any current or prospective goat owner.

I read this book from cover to cover years ago and have never forgotten it. It would be my chosen book if ever I was on Desert Island Discs.

Very informative and readable. Addresses issues in a comprehensive way and writing style of author appeals to the general reader, while informative enough to teach an experienced goatherd 'new tricks'.
