Amazon.co.uk Review

You'd have to be a heartless curmudgeon to dislike a movie as enjoyably sincere as Goal! The Impossible Dream. Yes, the corny title tells you all you need to know about this rags-to-riches soccer tale, but like Hoosiers and Rudy, this conventional sports drama rises above its familiar plot with an engaging cast and some pleasant surprises along the way. The movie follows young Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) as he rises to prominence in the competitive world of British soccer, this one begins by showing how Santiago, an undocumented immigrant in Los Angeles, attracts the attention of a talent scout (Stephen Dillane), who arranges a tryout for England's prestigious team, Newcastle United. It's rough going for a beleaguered trainee who suffers from asthma, but soon Santiago is befriended by a hard-partying soccer star (Alessandro Nivola) and he's on his way to reaching his…Goal! It's all very inevitable, but director Danny Cannon makes the most of this inspiring story by exploiting the unexpected subtleties in an otherwise predictable screenplay: Santigo's relationship with his seemingly unsupportive father (Tony Plana) gains additional resonance as the story unfolds; a local nurse (Anna Friel) turns out to be more than a routine love interest; and Newcastle's German manager (Marcel Iures) is a wry, colourful character who works miracles with his unruly squad of players. Add some obligatory cameo appearances by real-life soccer stars including (of course) the great David Beckham, and you've got a modest, likeable hit that delivers exactly what it promises, and a little bit more.--Jeff Shannon

DVD Description

Goal!

Santiago Munez is a poor Mexican-American immigrant who seems destined to follow his father into menial jobs to support the family. But with his exceptional talent for soccer, Santiago is given the chance of a lifetime to live his dream and make it as a professional footballer. This means leaving his family, his life and everything he knows in Los Angeles to travel halfway around the world to England for a trial with top club, Newcastle United. Alone in the exciting, glamorous and completely foreign world of professional football, Santiago must choose between his father's fate and his own destiny to prove he has the talent and determination to play amongst the best. With some of the world's biggest footballing stars on show, including England captain David Beckham, Spanish superstar Raul and former world player of the year Zinedine Zidane, Goal! provides the most exciting and authentic football action ever to be seen on film. An ideal gift for anyone in love with the beautiful game, Goal! arrives packed full of goalmouth action, comedy, camaraderie and unmissable extras. If you share Shankley's view that football is more important than life or death, then don't miss out on Goal!, the greatest football film ever.

Goal! 2
Picking up where the first left off, Goal! 2 is a continuation of Santiago Munez’s story, as he gets to grips with playing for a premiership team and is exposed to the temptation and privilege his new found fame brings. A lucrative transfer to Real Madrid places Santiago (Kuno Becker) alongside some of the world’s greatest players but creates a gulf between him and his fiancee, Boz (Anna Friel). Will Santiago be able to see past what drives him as a footballer to discover what is essential to complete his life as a man? With cameo appearances from the likes of David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo, Goal! 2 scores as a celebration of the beautiful game.

Goal! 3
Mexican football star Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) is pitted against his Real Madrid team-mates and England players Charlie Braithwaite (Leo Gregory) and Liam Adams (JJ Feild) in a quest to lift football’s ultimate prize: the FIFA World Cup.
Santi is motivated to try and win the trophy for his late father and family back in Los Angeles and Madrid, whilst Charlie and Liam just want to try and end the Three Lions’ 40 years of pain. For all three charismatic footballers, the path to football glory is one fraught with temptations and torments - and all three have to deal with personal issues off the pitch that affects their roles on it.
Triumph and tragedy sit side by side in equal measure on this journey as the players compete on the field of dreams to achieve their ultimate dream – to score the winning goal in the World Cup final and lift the cup in victory to the delight of a whole nation of fans.

Have previously seen Goal 1 and 2, which were enjoyable, and was looking forward to Goal 3.
Buying the Box set was good value and provided me with all 3 DVDs

Goal 3 is a total disaster. It is one of the worst films I have seen.
Goal 2 leaves a number of loose ends, which Goal 3, I assumed would tie up.
No such luck.

Goal 3 centres on the World Cup, but the central character Nunez does not play because he is injured.
Harris, his Real Madrid team mate, and possible world cup player doesn't feature at all, being replaced by two english non-entities.

This is a pointless film, with very little entertainment value, and certainly not one I would recommend.

Good price for all 3, I never knew Goal 3 existed and i wish that it doesnt, worst filmed, worst plotted, worst acted film ever created, ever. Although the other two Goal films were good, especially Goal 2! However it is a real shame that you never find out what happens with Santiago Munez and his wife :| But yeah, probably worth it, although dont watch Goal 3, it is Shockingly Bad!
