Gareth's back! 23 Sep 2003
Format:Audio CD
What a great new album and a great new sound from the pop prince! At first i was a little on sure but the album sure does grow on you quickly! i've been listening to it a lot and the first cd is a more mature sound and the second is very much like his original sound and still fantastic!

Overall its a fantastic album! Give it a chance and it really does grow on you!

Wow ! Gareth is certainly growing up with his new album. Packaged as 2 CDs for day and night. Our Gareth has certainly been inspired by Justin Timberlake even to the point of using falsetto especially on the fantastic "Groove with me". The day CD has a very funk/rnb feel to it. "Absolutely" is reminiscent of George Michael during his "Older" days. "Enough of Me" has a great rock guitar backing. The title track is a little more laid back and soulful.
Overall the "day" cd is far superior to the "night" cd - which has a more poppy sound and Gareth returns to his trademark ballads with piano intro and soaring choruses. However that said there are some more interesting moments - "skeletons" is very Backstreet Boys, "Foolish" has a 60's feel, and and the end track sounds like a Jason Donovan song ! The reason for the 2 CD's is a bit strange. The only reason I could see that the 2nd CD was "night" was beacuase it contains a few ballads but why would you want to listen to "spirit in the sky" on a night -they should have definitely swapped the tracks over as the 1st CD is far sexier and funky. At least you can now coose which Gareth you prefer - the old "pop" Gareth, or the new "funk" Gareth.....
Gareth is certainly sounding better and this album should see him get some credability from the more adult market since he also co-wrote most of the songs on it. Definitely one to buy - even if you're not a huge fan.

This second album from Gareth Gates proves how much the 19-year old really has grown up in the last few months. Moving on from the material featured on his debut album, released last October and entitled "What My Heart Wants To Say", this double album focuses more on the R'n'B side of 'Pop', with over half the album co-written by Gareth himself, and all of the tracks co-written by highly credited songwriters, Cathy Dennis for example. The double CD is split into 2 genres: Day and Night. Although this CD does feature beatier, rawer and sexier music in comparison to Gareth's previous hits - there is also an element of ballads and a few slower songs for his die-hard fans. A definite must-buy for any fan, or simply someone who enjoys good music, suited to any mood.
