If you like your eighties pop/rock then this is a belter. I'm in my early twenties so this stuff was out when I was wee lad but it's still got a heart-thumping sound, you simply have to sing along to these songs.
Some of the classics are on here like Call Me and We Close Our Eyes, but look out for Innocence (a personal fave) as this is Peter Cox at his best with some wicked synth work!
It only gets 4 stars though as some of its a bit lightweight - Eye to Eye, Haunted but its fully redeemed by stuff like SOS and Goodbye Girl.

Some strange things happen in the music world that cannot be explained - and this was one of them: 'Go West' should have been one of the biggest bands to ever come out of the 80s, but amazingly, despite releasing no less than four fabulous singles in 1985, only one made it to the Top Five! My personal favourite of these four releases was 'Goodbye Girl' that did not even make the Twenty... However, so what - this band were brilliant (and still are 'coz they're still around!)

'Go West' were notable for their crisp and clear sound - and one could hear every word that was sung - unlike most bands of today. Everything they did in '85 I loved, and I wasted no time in purchasing their debut album! This plays much like a greatest hits collection, since much of the album material itself was good enough to be used for more singles: 'S.O.S. and 'Innocence' for example.

Great stuff, and for me, the quintessential sound of 1985!

Go West are one of those 80s bands who never quite matched the success of other acts like Wham, Duran Duran and Frankie Goes To Hollywood who were dominating the charts at the time when the band made their debut.

However Peter Cox's remarkable voice and Richard Drummie's keyboard skills make their debut album an enjoyable collection. The nine tracks are all of a decent standard (with no ropey ones) - from their biggest hit 'We Close Our Eyes' that opens the album to the echo's of the slow burning 'Missing Persons' that closes the album. My favourite tracks are 'Call Me' (a high octane pop tune) and 'Goodbye Girl' (an emotional moody tune) which provided the band with further top 40 chart success in 1985.

This album has never been re-issued or re-mastered so all copies in print are the original standard package from 1985 with no bonus extras. A follow-up of album of re-mixes and B sides titled 'Bangs & Crashes' was release the following year and is still available to buy.

Their debut album still remains their best work to date.

This Album is indeed a true reflection of the later part of the 1980's. There were several singles released and all managed to achieve chart sucess, lots of radio airplay, but more importantly, all were instantly recognisable and all were memorable!
Turn up the volume and loose yourself in this classic example of a combination of great vocals, great melodies, great synthasier work and some very clevery used rock guitar.
Very much worth every penny!
