Radiohead created a rock grunge sound influenced by Nirvana and the Pixies in the nineties, with albums like Pablo Honey and The Bends. In the 2000s, they Merged electronica with abrasive guitar with Kid A and Amnesiac. They inspire the listener to be uplifted and reflective in equal measure. Their most critically acclaimed album, 1997's OK Computer, has been nominated as one of the ... Read more in Amazon's Radiohead Store

The single itself is pleasant enough, one of the better efforts from new album Hail To The Thief. However, i feel it is let down by the b-sides. I own all the singles from The Bends era onwards, some are definately worth buying (such as the Street Spirit single, worth the price for Talk Show Host alone!) yet the b-sides from many of the recent singles don't compete, this cd included. I Am Citizen Insane is just lazy experimentation and loops which don't really go anywhere, and is uninspiring for me compared with older material. The live version of Fog isn't bad, but overall i would suggest only buying this cd to complete collections.

First off, this isn't as good as There There, but that dosn't make this a bad song, this is a fantastic song, with some intresting (and as usual, different lyrics) from Mr Yorke. The song is mainly played on acoustic, with a slight blues feel, and Thom repeating 'Over my dead body' with a different line between, the riff as the song gets to about 1.50 then gets very tapping your foot on the ground like, and is a song that can be remebered in your head. As i had said Thom comes out with some intresting lines like my favourite 'We don't want the loonies taking over'. Then Johnny comes into play with a Paranoid Android style solo just without the speed. Go To Sleep was a great choice for a single, and i hope 'Sit down, stand up' will be next.

This great offering from Mr Yorke & Co is not an obvious single lacking as it does the obvious killer hooks of earlier Radiohead singles but it does follow the same semi-experimental path as the marvelous 'Knives Out' & 'Pyramid Song'.
From the acoustic opening into Thom's plaintive vocal and the introduction of the drums the band do not put a foot wrong, electronic blips and stutters punctuate the song and keep it ever interesting.
Another Great Radiohead single

What ever happened to ONE DISC PER SINGLE? 3 Sep 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Despite Radiohead being unwilling to make life easier for their fans by releasing a 5 song single EP with 4 B Sides instead of 2 x 3 Song Singles with 2 B sides each... this is an amazing single.
When you listen to Go To Sleep, Gagging Order and I am a Wicked Child back to back to back, you begin to hear the guitar based rock and roll albumn we were promised. If you're curious about what that apparently imaginary albumn might have sounded like, start here.
Gagging order is an incredibly beautiful song. It's the sort of "Secret Radiohead" only those who have all their singles know about. Think of Lozenge of Love or How I made My Millions. It's that good.
It's sort of a Big Star type make you cry softy... and I love it.
I am a wicked child is also excellent... though much more of a sing along type track. This is more along the lines of a Molasses or Bishop's Robes type... lyrical and melodic slow dance.
While both of these are excellent and easily albumn worthy for most bands, those fans of Radiohead singles will not be surprised.
The band seems to have a secret side which they reserve just for songs like these and which they leave aside of B Sides.
Those of us who bought the pyramid song and knives out singles (or any of their singles from previous albumns for that matter) will no doubt pick this up anyway, so I don't need to try to sell you on it.
For those of you who don't have all or any of these, I highly suggest you look into them. If you love Radiohead, but are basing your love for them on the albumns alone, you're missing out on a while different dimension to the band... and contrary to what you might think, these B-Sides are typically less experimental and more poppy than the albumn tracks. (I said Typically... there's no accounting for the experimental ambient brilliance of paperbag writer and where bluebirds fly )
Anyway, long story short. If you like radiohead, first make sure you have enough to eat, then pay your student loan, but after that, don't hesitate to buy this single.

Best of the new singles 14 Sep 2003

Of course, this ISN'T released domestically, but hey... what's LimeWire for? ;-)
Go to Sleep: You've probably heard it if you're looking at this page, if not then please do yourself and buy Hail to the Thief. It's a good, solid rock song that I think was a pretty good choice for a single (although I'm still begging for Backdrifts, Where I End And You Begin, and 2+2=5 to be released). 4/5
I Am Citizen Insane: Good, melodic techno song. If you like this, then check out Amber by Autechre, which is pretty much in the same vein, only darker. I don't know why people don't like this that much; it's a lot better than Meeting in the Aisle. 4/5
Fog (live): I liked the studio version better, but it's still a great song. One of the few true rarities that actually makes it into the set now and then at shows. Really nice piano playing on it. 4/5

The way a single should be done. 11 Sep 2003
By James Williamson - Published on Amazon.com

First of all, contrary to popular belief, this is not an import-only release. This CD is currently available on Capitol records here in the states ... As for the music, this CD contains two of my favorite B-Sides the band has made so far. They're easily as good as Banana Co, Bishop's Robes, Fog, and Palo Alto. The only 2 they don't touch are Talk Show Host and Cuttooth. In layman's terms, they're freaking great.
Gagging Order: The guitar playing is magnificent, while Thom's voice sings in the "Pyramid Song" etherial tone. It's a terrific song that reminds me of Neil Young at his "Harvest"-era best.
I Am A Wicked Child: The rocker. This is the song that would've made the album a return to rock. The lyrics are some of my favorite. About the devil's son begging for pennance. It's matured a bit since it debuted in Webcast #2 two years ago, and is all the better for it. I love the Dylan-esque harmonica, too. Magnificent.
As for "Go To Sleep", you should know by now that this is one of the best songs the 'Head has ever made...

Folk and blues and Radiohead????? 3 Sep 2003
By K. Gray - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I'm going to assume that if you're looking up this item that you are a Radiohead fan. So I'm also going to assume that you are familiar with the sonic changes in the band over the past ten years, the foray into electronica and such. You may also have noticed an occasional dip into blues, funk, and folk, in such songs as A Punchup at a Wedding, I Might Be Wrong, and this single, Go to Sleep. The b-sides on this album continue in this trend.
Keep in mind that these are b-sides, and the recording quality is such. It's fuzzy, improperly mixed, and imbalanced ever so slightly in the left and right ears. But the music is beautiful. "Gagging Order" is Thom solo on an acoustic guitar, and the song has the slow somber feel of Radiohead's best ballads, with a slight folky touch. There's something particularly haunting about this track as Thom moans, "Move along / there's nothing left to see / just a body / nothing left to see," to a rolling, dirty guitar strum. Simply mystical.
"I am a Wicked Child" is pure blues, with harmonica (!) and all. It sounds like the band woke up one morning and just started grooving on their instruments, and this song came out of it. It has the feel of an old Beatles cover of some bluesy song, and it's a good listen. I just wish I knew for sure who was on that harmonica.
To all fans of the band, don't hesitate to pick this up.

Another Supurb Single 13 Nov 2003
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The Go To Sleep single is worth every penny. While Go To Sleep isn't one of the best songs off Hail To The Thief it's b-sides are worth the purchase. The first B-side, "I Am Citizen Insane" is a dose of electronic sounds with a sporadic bass beat that creates a song full of an infectious melody that runs like musical bliss. Then comes the broken down live version of "Fog." The studio version features the likes of bass, guitar, drums, vocal harmonies and a tamborine. All the live version features is Thom and his piano. It might sounds like the live version is the lesser but the piano rolls like a harp and Thom's voice is perfect. As soon as Thom's voice kicks in with the line "There's a little child.." you feel like everything before it was just white noise. If you there were an image that Fog could bring to mind it would be Thom playing a piano in a noizy bar and as soon as he starts singing people gradually stop talking and drinking and eventually the entire bar is all ears and as soon as it's over everyone goes home, renounces alcoholism and tells their family they love them. That is the Go To Sleep Single 1. 9/10
