How could a band produce a brilliant album like this - one of the funniest ever made - go on to create the superb 'Manifest Destiny'? And yet still be regarded as minor players in the rock universe? There is no justice. Where to start? There's 'Cars and Girls', a screwed up genetic mix of Beach Boys surf, Dictators' swagger, and stellar producers (we all know who, surely?. Once it gets into your head it won't leave.... Or there's the powerhouse 'Search and Destroy', easily holding its own against Iggy's original, recorded loud and live... and how could we not mention 'Master Race Rock'? Side-splitting lyrics, excellent riffs, manic vocals (listen out for the Secret Weapon)and more, it closes what was side one in vinyl days. Can you believe the Dictators do 'I Got you Babe'?? Your mental state will change....
Then there's a bruising 'California Sun'. Listen to the guys in the background and a bizarre expresssion of disbelief towards the end.... you may learn some new dances..... The opening track, 'The Next Big Thing' gets things under way with a unique Dictators' soliloquy.... and later on we will meet 'Two Tub Man', referenced on Manifest Destiny (buy this CD too: it's an awesome blend of killer melodies, scores of power riffs just thrown out left right and centre, sharp lyrics, hard rock. You name it, it's got it.)
The band even manage to take a tilt at the King of Cool, Eric Bloom, as they boldly go where few have been before.
Buy 'Go Girl Crazy': you know it makes sense.
