This is an introductory book to the game of GO. The basics and the basic strategies are introduced in a step by step fashion from basic rules to opening strategies. There are a large number of diagrams of game situations and at the end the author presents a professional top level game. Between the chapters on game rules and strategy there are short sections on the history and current status of the game.
Cho Chikun is one of the most succesfull GO professionals and based on reading this book he could also be an excellent instructor. I found this book a useful and coherent introduction to the game. Of course in a book of less than 140 pages only the surface can be scratched, and there is a recommendation section for those who want to learn more (only books from Kiseido), and a list of contact addresses of GO associations around the world.

This is a great book written by an authority on the game. It slowly progresses chapter by chapter making sure each new idea is cemented in the reader's brain before moving on to the next set of ideas.
If you've never played Go this book will teach you all you need, and if like myself you;ve played but not achieved any standard well it might take 20 pages before you hit some new ideas. There's a very advanced game featured with step by step commentary so this could be a great first Go book for even seasoned players.
In between chapters are short articles on the history and development of the game along with details of the p[rofessional game around the world. I enjoyed these as they break up the learning abit. Recommended.

This book is aimed at somebody who has never played go before or wh has just started. It takes you through all the rules of the game and then introduces you to the basic tactics that you will need to play Go. The book is generally well written and presents a concise overview of the history and culture of Go alongside the lessons. There are also 2 games provided and a discussion of some of the common opening moves.

This is probably the best place to start if you wish to learn about this game. It teaches you all the relevant rules and tactics as you progress through it and has an interesting history of the game as well. It is perfect to dip into for inspiration and to improve your game play in general. A recommended read.
