5.0 out of 5 stars For Those Devoted Champs Fans 23 April 2011
By AvidOldiesCollector - Published on
Format:Audio CD
For the most devoted of fans of the LA-based instrumental group The Champs, Ace offers two CDs covering all but two of their singles for Gene Autry's Challenge label, the first titled The Early Singles (1996) which provides 30 tracks covering 15 singles from 1958 to 1961, including their first 5 hit singles (only one is missing as detailed in my review of that release).

Then, in 1997, they released The Later Singles which picks up where the first one leaves off, adding another 26 tracks, including their last 3 hits, covering 1962 to 1965. Once more, they left out one single from this period, as detailed in my review of that volume.

This one, which came out in 2006, provides a vintage-looking cardboad sleeve for the 12 tracks which first appeared in the 1958 Challenge LP CHL-601 Go Champs Go, and includes the monster # 1 smash Tequila, the follow-up hit, El Rancho Rock, and its charted B-side, Midnighter.

A nice cheap addition to the two singles volumes from the masters at Ace of London.
