I thought this was an excellent compelling book highlighting the managarial skills of Barbara Cassini and others in their quest to get an airline off the ground (excuse the pun). As I am presently studing for my MBA, I found this book both informative and indeed identified with many aspects of my course in this book. I would recommend it thoroughly to anyone undertaking a management/business qualification, but, quite aside from this aspect, it is an interesting read and would make you want to try your own business idea and live your dream (if that was your desire) good luck!!

This book shows what truly inspired leadership can do.... painting a vision of what is possible, inspiring people around you, managing those critical stakeholders (including big company politicians), creating a great team of followers who believe in that vision - and then creating and delivering the plan which everyone has signed up to. It demonstrates the enormous power of creating a great team of talented people around you - and then believing and trusting in them. The teamwork displayed throughout the Go team appeared hugely impressive. A brilliant story which will have you astounded at the final outcome. Even though you know it from the synopsis. And with a tear in your eye as Barbara rides off into the sunset.... for a business read, very entertaining!

Firstly, this book is very readable. Whether or not the credit is due to the 'ghost writer', the pages keep turning. That said, the book is long on description (esp. in the first half) and falls rather short on analysis. We get teasing glimpses of how 'power' people work - the CEO coach in the background, staff from Boston Consulting on hand to help with the business case, the value of contacts made doing an MBA at business school etc. But it's not a book that really gets you into the mindset of the CEO or povides a checklist for the aspiring high-flyer. For example, there's no explanation of how a salaried employee of BA is able to secure a 'founder' Director's equity stake in Go.

But like a deus ex machina, running throughout the narrative we get glimpses of Go's orange nemesis, Stelios!
