This spellbinding book opens your eyes to the daily life of the humble gnome throughout the year. The detailed illustrations carry the reader through the year from the harsh winter life of these rare creatures - to the delights to be enjoyed during the summer months. The tone is that of historical narrator - revealing to the uninitiated that these creatures live and breathe a world not too dissimilar to that of our own. Their cares and worries change as the year progresses. Fearless, loving and loyal, Gnomes come to life through these pages to reveal their intimate lives, secrets, and daily routines. I cannot convey the detail and intrigue portrayed throughout these superb pages. A book adults and children will turn to again and again for many years. A book to be treasured. You will find yourself looking out for the tell-tale signs of gnome life wherever you go once you have this book!

This book is a wonderful "everything you could possibly need to know" guide to gnomes and their lives. The illustrations are darling, they capture the true "little people" spirit! This book is a must have for anyone interested in Faery-kind!

A book to share with children 15 May 2012
By Graves - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I was a fan of Poorvliet and Huygen's book "Gnomes' when it first came out and have followed their works, gnome related an otherwise, for a while and enjoyed them. So when I chanced upon this I thought it would be fun. I was unsure what it was but hoped it was a 3rd Gnome book or possibly a compendium but I had enough faith in them that I would risk the bucks on it.

The book is fairly short with each two page section covering a different month of the year. There is a page of typed text and a corresponding picture of a gnome and his family. It assumes the reader has some knowledge about gnomes but it is not required to enjoy the book. What was a disappointment for me was the age it was aimed at. While not directly a children's book it is not written for adults either. A little muddled I would guess it is something for parents to read and share with small children who are too small for `Gnomes'

In the end it is good in that role but I would have preferred some sort of warning or direction as to the age bracket the book was aimed at before I bought it. I expect mine will go to my 8 year old niece.

Though not as charmingly thoughtful as Poortvliet's bigger books, this is still one for the collection. It is rather short, just a monthly diary of gnome activities, but richly illustrated. A little window into the secret world of gnomes.
