This album is Heather's first proper album. It is very different to 'Oyster' and 'Siren' the songs are quirky, and there is an apparent lack of drums! My favourites are 'Spirit In You' which is earnest and quietly beautiful,with a sound similar to the sea at the end, it also has a slight ethnicy feel to it with what sounded like pan pipes...bliss! 'Mothertongue' is almost aggressive and brash, a definate stand out track, and 'Ear to the Ground' is quiet and almost spoken rather than sung, but with lyrics that are easily picked up and catchy "am I looking up at angels or am I really looking up at clouds?" which posesses similar sounds to Enya's 'Sheperd Moons' album. The track 'Frontier' reminds me of Tori Amos' album titled song 'Little Earthquakes' because of the deep accompanying vocals of Moses Bones. Almost whatever album by Heather that you listen to she mentions angels and has sea themes on a lot of them, which gives a dream like feel, and this is no exception. 'Talking To Strangers' and 'Shaking The Doll' are very quirky tracks. This album is worth having because it is Heather's first, and it shows how much her music and talent has progressed since 1993 as well as posessing her unique style.

I have only recently discovered Heather Nova (Shame on me!). Of the other albums I have (Siren, Oyster and Storm) this, her first, is still my favourite. Its a dream of an album and to my mind - perhaps her best. Mostly acoustic, with not much percussion, its imaginative originality and that lovely voice makes this a pleasure to chill to in the late hours when the world is asleep. The stuff of dreams. Get it while you can. And Heather, if you ever read this - MORE OF THE SAME PLEASE!

I absolutely adore this record, it contains some of the most heart-rending lyrics and harmonies that I have ever heard. It's not as focused or as polished as her later albums (it was recorded in her living room after all), but as always the vocal work is amazing. On this album Heather's voice is plainer and more stripped down than on her later work but the simple beauty of the songs and the layered arrangements get me every time. Think 'paper cup' only more ethereal. I have shed quite a few tears over this record. I love it like nothing else.
