About the Author
Linda Stratmann has long had an interest in true crime and has acquired a substantial collection of books on the subject. A psychology graduate, she spent many years in the Civil Service before becoming a full-time writer. She describes libraries and archives as her 'natural habitat'. 'Chloroform', The Quest for Oblivion (Sutton August 2003) was her first book. Her 'Essex Murders' was published in May 2004.

A good list of bygone solved and unsolved crimes from the Cotswolds-well written with maps and original photos complimenting each crime. We were particularly interested in the "Great British Torso Murder" of 1938, and this article pointed us towards other books and information containing greater detail.

Having read Stratmann's excellent book 'Chloroform' I bought this one on Amazon, but it was a disappointment. The book is not based on original research but regurgitates the work of others. The Edmond Edmunds story from Newent was nicely retold, but the Campden Wonder chapter was dreadful - nothing new or interesting, just pot-boiling some old scraps.
