This is a beautifully presented, and creatively planned game, on every level. The tutorial campaign is helpful, logical and incredibly informative. It acts as a set of real "building blocks", enabling the gamer to develop the necessary techniques to succeed in the challenge, or free-building modes.
Challenge scenarios are imaginatively set-out, and provide a range of realistic and achievable tasks, although many will take some time, and several attempts. Regular saving, at key stages of the challenge, is a very good idea.
The complex but absorbing nature of the resource structure invites a great deal of experimentation within the game-play, and you can spend hours attempting to perfect strategies and layouts for settlements, to keep your population happy, and address the requirements of the specific scenario.
Terrain restrictions are challenging, and realistic, and the need to fulfill the citizens spiritual needs, as well as their physical wants, adds a great deal to the game.
Overall, it is very difficult to be critical of the way this game develops, through hours of enjoyable playing. Appearance-wise, all the screens are beautifully detailed, carefully arranged, and make all the tools required readily accessible and fun to use.
This game is very strongly recommended to anyone who enjoys historical, strategic, and development gaming. It is a really amazing example of this genre.
