Product Description

Review

'The best introduction to the subject by far. A classic of its kind.' Dr David Baker, University of Warwick 'An accessible and bang up-to-date study which blends theory and practice through well-focussed and integrated chapters dealing with key international issues in the new millenium...a superb book which really does justify the plaudits.'Dr Shaun Gregory, University of Bradford 'The most comprehensive introductory text in IR which challenges the diligent student to think.' Dr Mark F. Imber, University of St Andrews --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

The Globalization of World Politics is one of the most commercially successful textbooks published by Oxford University Press, and with even a quick flick through it is not difficult to see why. It aims to combine history, theory, structure and process with contemporary international issues, and it does so in a way that is clearly presented. This is an ideal text for students who are new to the subject, but it also remains a key resource as students continue in their studies. Although the book's aim is introductory, its breadth and depth make it a worthwhile investment. (Ariene Caloia, third-year politics student, Royal Holloway, University of London )

I have had very, very good experiences with your "IR bible" [The Globalization of World Politics by Baylis et al] as well as Strategy in the Contemporary World. I wish all my books were this informative - extremely well written, clearly structured and of high quality! Everywhere I go, I take these books with me. Keep up the good work! (Romain Markwalder, Postgraduate student, King's College, London )

5.0 out of 5 stars A remarkable introduction to an increasingly relevant field, 21 Sep 2001
Don't be deceived by the lack of a reference to International Relations in the title, this is as comprehensive a introduction to the subject as you'll find. In actuality, the text expands beyond the parameters of International Relations, adopting a broader approach to the study of politics beyond the nation state. Excellently striking the balance between the need for brevity and clarity, and the equally crucial requirement for a detailed insight into the subject matter, the authors provide a unique text which would be of great assistance to the student or alternatively, compulsive reading for those with a general interest in the area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro to World History and politics, 21 Jan 2005
An excellent introduction to recent world history and international relations. Bayliss and Smith tackle the key themes in contemporary international relations with skill and a questioning prose which encourages readers to develop their own viewpoint. I first read this as an Undergraduate in International Relations but it will be of interest to anyone with questions about recent world history, the current international order or even those who enjoy Tom Clancy novels!

5.0 out of 5 stars A first rate introduction, 29 Jul 2004
This has to be one of the most useful and helpful textbooks I have yet bought. As an introduction to international relations, it presents information in a clear, concise way making it easy to find what you're looking for. I thoroughly reccommend this book to first year students studying international relations or to anyone with an interst in the workings of the world around around them.
