Book Description

25 Jan 2007 1403948453 978-1403948458 2nd Revised edition
Offering an approach to sociology that takes the global dimensions of the contemporary world as its overarching framework, this textbook is written in a style that is relevant and fresh for the undergraduate reader whether they have studied sociology before or not. It offers sociological discussion of a range of topical and substantive areas, structured in a student-friendly way. This international text is written to engage readers actively in thinking about social life and challenges the "West and the rest" stance of many other texts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant introductory textbook 14 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This was an interesting book which i choose for my degree course in politics and sociology. I was very impressed as some of my textbooks are dry and dull and i just don't want to open them. However with its clear, consise layout which illustarates infomation in both graphs, charts and pictures it was not such a chore to reseach for the piece of coursework or to make notes from. As textbooks go it is not too thick which is always positive. With the chapter format, the glossary, name and subject index' it is quick and esay to find information. I highly rate this book and will continue to use it in my studies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for degree level students! 23 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
This book helps explain complicated themes and ideologies in a simplified way. It has sections down the side of the page with key terms and explains what they are. The whole layout of the book is very friendly, the book is not just big chunks of text!
It was reccomended by my lecturer as one of the main core texts for my module and so far has proved invaluable.
