Product Description

Review

"This is a very interesting book. On the one hand its range of titles suggests little out of the ordinary. On the other hand its treatment of the subject matter and the very restrained use of language make it an ideal book to use for discussions on these issues. It doesn′t try to preach neither does it over–simplify. Even though the text appears to be pitched at an older audience, lower secondary students would find the text accessible. For a good overview on the pros and cons of key current issues this book is hard to beat." TEGNews

"University students, and indeed others, are shown how both the decisions that have been made – and the resulting failures and successes – and the choices that must now be faced if crucial problems are to be solved." Mervyn Richardson, International Journal of Environmental Studies --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

"The new edition is adequately updated to cover significant developments in each of these fields, including an expanded section on global warming and a new section on the UN's Millennium Development Goals." (Geographical Journal, 2009) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

There are many people who may read this book and may feel that the book is outdated in the global issues that we deal with it. Although they may well have a point, for introduction to the global issues that we face today, this book is very relevant. For those seeking to study the global issues context at a much more detailed and updated level, i would recommend books like 'Global Shift' by peter dicken or other similar books.

Excellent one volume intro to how all the issues connect. 4 May 1999

I used this book as text for high school "Global Studies" courses, and thought it was terrific in its understandable but not watered down treatment of the big issues -- war, hunger, women's rights, population, environment, etc. Shows how these issues relate to each other. It was a stretch for 9th graders, but would be perfect for high school seniors or college intro.
was in great condition!! 18 Sep 2010

I received the book before the expected date and it was close to brand new
