Synopsis

Joe Haines wrote an account of his time at No. 10 in 1977. It caused a sensation at the time. Written with the benefit of longer hindsight this volume is no less sensational. It reveals that Wilson's doctor suggested that the solution to the Lady Falkender problem was murder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories 3 Jan 2010
Format:Hardcover
A rare and real insight into the way in which our country is governed; the more so because I have only been able to surmise as to what has happened behind closed doors at No. 10 with Blair and now Brown in charge. I have Campbell's memoirs lurking on the bookshelf and can hardly wait to see if he is half as informative as Joe Haines. I suspect that it may be a few years (perhaps 30!) before we are made fully aware of the intrigue behind the decisions which were made - and who was really pulling the strings?

3.0 out of 5 stars Aimed at those 'who were there at the time' 24 Nov 2003
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A very interesting account of Joe Haines's time as Harold Wilsons press secretary. One drawback would be that it sometimes fails to put historical events into context, and for anyone under the age of 30 who didn't live through that time it may be a bit confusing.
