5.0 out of 5 stars Oh joy! It's pilchards a-go-go! 20 Jun 2013
At last we have it! The 12-can pilchard gift pack.

No longer need you open the door of your food cupboard to find there's no more than three or four days' supply of pilchards left. Now you need never run out of pilchards again. Don't deny it, we've all experienced at some time that forgotten-the-pilchards feeling.

Maybe you've had visitors coming round for dinner, or your children arriving home from school expecting some pilchard-based treat, and have found yourself more or less bereft of the fishy delight. Well that needn't be a problem any longer. I bought two of the excellent-value 12-can pilchard packs, and have now more or less filled my cupboard with pilchards. In fact, my wife often jokes that apart from a bottle of Worcester sauce, the only food we have in the house is pilchards (it's not true, there's some bloater paste in there as well).

Some of our favourite dishes are pilchards on toast, pilchards on ryvita, pilchards on TUC crackers, pilchards on mini-cheddars, pilchards on matzos (Passover only), pilchards on digestive biscuits for the delightful contrast of sweet and savoury, pilchard surprise (that's just a pilchard with no biscuit), and for the exotically inclined, pilchard sushi, which is pilchard fresh from the tin with a lettuce leaf wrapped around it (optional). Oh, there are so many recipes I could share based round this most versatile of foodstuffs.

And for those of you who cleave to the view that a pilchard is nothing but a big sardine, let us look at the positives in that. For one thing it means the bone is bigger and better defined, and can be taken and boiled up to provide a nourishing fish broth. But I don't intend to spoil it for you by revealing the many delights in store once you order your big-value pilchard pack.

There are more joys and surprises than you can possibly imagine in a can of pilchards. And that being the case, think how many more there could be in 12 tins.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pilchards - More than a word 22 Jun 2013
There are many interesting things that catch the imagination, A dozen eggs, The Dirty Dozen and dozen any body care anymore? Well forget these 12's because we now have the Glenryck 12. Not a terrorist group stemming from the 70's but a real live offer of 12 superb pilchards neatly packed into the same tin. Having spent extensive time reseraching this product I can honestly assure the reader that in many cases the pichards are "mainly" made of fish. They are then subject to close scrutiny culminating in each one being interviewed to see how they will cope in close proximity.Notwithstanding this the gang of 12 come in their own packing known as a Pilchard Parcel a non de plume suitable for the boy Cameron. If you want quality then look no further, get down with the Pilchards.
