Baaaa-rilliant book! 5 July 2009

I bought this book about a year ago while working in Germany and I absolutely love it. 'Glennkill' is the original German-language version of 'Three Bags Full' by Leonie Swann. While grazing in their field, a flock of sheep find their beloved shepherd dead with a pitch-fork through his middle. The sheep then set about trying to discover who murdered him. The whole story is told from a sheep's eye view and includes lots of their observations about humans and the world around them. I found the book a refreshing change from most of the other books available at the moment, and would recommend it to anyone who likes quirky, funny stories.

After seeing the short tagline of 'Ein Schafskrimi' (a sheep crime novel), I was convinced this was going to be a good read and I wasn't disappointed. Told mainly from the sheep's points of view, the sheep feel obliged to solve the mystery of their kind shepherd's murder. Who would want to kill him? Really humorous in places and quite thrilling throughout, this book is a must buy for anyone who can understand German and likes a good whodunnit!

A gentle story that reflects the authors background in literature and psychology. The gifted ewe Miss Maple works to solve the mystery of her shepherds untimely murder due to a spade in his heart. The characterizations of her fellow sheep and their view of town society make for a light but satisfying read.
