3.0 out of 5 stars Glee: The Music, VOlume 7 9 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD
It is impossible to ignore the fact that of late, Glee - previously such a cultural phenomenon - has a suffered an not insignificant decline in popularity. This is characterised by the fact that US and UK television ratings are significantly down from last season, and the charting of major songs is not what it used to be, to say the least...

It makes sense that as the 'offspring' (as each Glee album is) of the first section (because 8/22 is hardly a half, is it?) of the third season, the album is less spectacular and less 'passionate' than previous Glee albums and like many Glee albums beforehand (though never to this degree, I think) has failed to accurately select the best tracks of the season.

Let's start with the high moments.

"You Can't Stop the Beat" is an excellent Glee cover; Lea Michele's slow beginning is beautiful and as a unifying whole, this song comes across nicely, like many a season 1 Glee cover. "Somewhere" within the context of the show was a little confused (it was the only interaction between Rachel and her biological mother and yet was left in the show as ambiguous as to whether it actually ever took place) but as a duet between the SPECTACULAR Menzel and Michele, it is very very good. (Though we doubt anything will ever beat Season 1's Poker Face.) "Fix You" was also very good within the show and warrants mention on this album. Finally, "Rumour Has It/Someone Like You", which hit the US charts at no. 11, is a fantastic cover, very emotional and skilfully composed together and it would be inconceivable to have missed it off the album.

And now we come to the low points.

There are many songs on this album that simply don't cut it.

I have all these albums. Oddly. To me this is by far the weakest. I'm not exactly in the key Glee demographic but it's a bit of a guilty pleasure.

So i've enjoyed the other albums, not in their entirety, but i skip through and find a good few songs i really enjoy. It's the same with this album too, but just to a much lesser extent, only a couple of songs i already like, of them, at least one is done a cappella and a bit annoying.

I realise the gleek mafia are going to hammer me for this. But it's true. On the plus side I'm glad to see that they've gone back to the big numbered cover design and the album is 71 minutes long.

Notwithstanding this of your kid is a big fan of the show then this will be ideal for christmas.

It's also probably worth mentioning that the album contains the word 'testicles' - an odd thing to point out i know, but it may be of interest to someone.

3.0 out of 5 stars The end may be in sight 27 Dec 2011

One thing major TV companies don't realise is when programmed transfer from free channels (E4) to pay to view (Sky 1) not all the fans including myself will go with the series, and are not prepared to pay ridiculous satellite charges just for a few works out cheaper to but the episodes for keeps. However that should not have effected the quality of the music or the production of the programme. which being a tight fisted person, have seen round a friends. Series three suffers from a lack of good song choices which has been highlighted by other reviews and also not using the great voices of Cory Monteith. Darren Criss now appears to be the main singer, OK Criss is good I am sure everyone is aware that a lot of cast are leaving after this season, the problem is not only with the music being not as strong as previous collections, also the stories that accompany the songs just do not have the spark of the first two seasons, well that's my personal opinion. What is also interesting due to the drop in views the music has not been hitting the download charts like the previous two seasons, so in the end perhaps Sky did buy it at the right time.

2.0 out of 5 stars 25% of the CD is missing 19 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD
If you check the Wikipedia entry for this CD

you'll notice that there's a "Target exclusive" (i.e. totally out of reach for any European) edition that contains 20 instead of the here offered 15 tracks.

I'm still watching season 1 and don't know how good these additional tracks are, but I think it's a travesty to get fobbed off with this abridged version where a quarter of the tracks is missing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better.
Some of the best musics in season 3 came in later episodes, making this cd below average. There is, of course, the amazing mash up version from Adele music. Read more
