I bought this on a whim one lazy summers day, purely on the strength of the single Drinking in LA. This is one strange record! it mixes many musical styles from drum & bass to country and western togeher to make a plesent and surprising album. This may sound as if it is confused and directionless, but on the countrary it bimbles along with happy 'glee' and is perfect soundtrack to summer nights..

I bought this album out of curiosity having heard the fantastic single Drinking in LA and I was not disappointed. The album is a great mix of hip hop and indie without relying too much on the black roots from which the style came, but instead making use of that one thing that seems to factor in alot of Canadian music, a sense of humour. There are some amusing gems here in Supermodel and Couch Surfer, along with some fine moments of Fugee style rap in Carry On and Afrodiziac. Quite a few of these tracks are really only intros for the track after them, but this strings the album together nicely, making it enjoyable and impossible to turn off. A hidden gem.

Sample-tastic! 22 Oct 2005
Format:Audio CD
Many of you will know 'Drinking in LA' by Bran Van and that's all, but boy are you missing out. Bran Van released 'Drinking in LA' as the first single, as it was the most commercial song on the album, but that was somewhat of a mistake. The rest of the 'sample-tastic' album travels through genres such as disco, drum 'n' bass, rock, jazz, indie and ambient, taking you on a journey demonstrating what sound is possible of. It is full of chunky beats, wild melodies and great vocal samples from the three main singers. Highlights of the album include 'Supermodel', 'Couch surfer' and my personal favourite 'Willard'. All of these could have been great singles and made Bran Van pioneers in a their very own ecclectic genre (almost Beck-like). For me this album epitomises the future of music. But this is no doubt one of, if not the best album i have bought, and im sure if you like music you will love this!
