Product Description

The award-winning Piao i is the bestselling tea infuser in Taiwan. The top chamber allows the tea leaves to move and unfurl freely in the water. Many other infusers trap the leaves in a small chamber. The push-button release draining system means the leaves do not over-steep so they can be reinfused repeatedly. The Piao I allows you to get the maximum number of infusions from one serving of tea leaves. The Piao i teapot has a glass serving jug and a food-grade polycarbonate infusing chamber with a push-release button. The button raises a stainless steel ball allowing the infused tea to flow down into the serving jug.

Great Product 22 Sep 2008
It's a great product. I've tried quite a few different tea infusers over the years but this one produces the best quality tea. The filtering system is excellent.

In many ways this is a very good product, and does make a very nice mug (singular) of tea. I particularly like the fact that when the water is brewing, the dual wall created by the brewing chamber and the jug keeps the water nice and hot.

That said, having bought the 1000ml model, I can see no benefits of this over the smaller, cheaper models. Given that you can only make one mug at a time, I would, in retrospect, go for a smaller model. While you could fill the jug of the 1000ml model by brewing twice, the glass of the jug alone has pretty poor thermal properties, rapidly cooling the first brewed tea while you wait for the second. I dislike luke-warm tea so I never do this, instead pouring the first brewed tea before starting the second mug brewing. As such, the larger 1000ml jug is never filled.

Essentially, the product would be many times better if the size of the brewing chamber was commensurate with the size of the jug. Ideally, a single filling of the brewing chamber would fill the jug. Given that it doesn't, I'd recommend the smaller model.

Best tea pot yet 7 April 2010
Have been using this for several weeks and it is the best tea pot we have ever tried. Plusses - brews quickly in small quantities, just keep adding more boiling water to brew more. The inner brewing pot can be lifted out to flow the tea into any other cup/mug or jug. You use smaller quantities of leaf tea per brew so it makes using leaf tea very economical. Negatives - a bit fiddly to clean, but the leaves/dregs are fairly dry immediately after use and can go straight into your compost. Then a jet of water from the cold tap gets the remainder out. After a few weeks the inside of the inner brewing pot needed a deep clean with a solution of oxi-action which brought it up like new, obviously we were scruplulous about thoroughly rinsing it before next brew. The jug is useful in its own right.
