A typical York Notes 22 Jun 2005

Format:Paperback
Entirely worth buying if you are studying this superb play for A-level but so very typically York Notes! Rather restrained and not always as clear as it ought to be.

...The number of levels included within the characters is incredible, as one is made to feel hope, pity AND frustration all at once with regard to Laura in Scene Seven. I do not see how anyone in their right mind could describe the characters as "2-d", when Williams has so accurately portrayed the complexity and fragile beauty of the human spirit. I am also an A-level student and I can only compel my fellow reviewers to study this MASTERFUL, human drama more closely, before they sit the exams. This truly is one of the GREATS of modern drama!

The "Glass Menagerie" (York Notes Advanced)

Many volumes from the York Notes series are complementary to the study of their corresponding texts but the essays on 'The Glass Menagerie' contained in this product don't seem to achieve that standard.

The content of the book as stated in the contents suggests that these York Notes will provide excellent high-level understanding of Tennessee's play but actually their performance in this field is considerably poor. The essays teach you very little about 'The Glass Menagerie' beyond your blatant understanding.

The only purpose served by this product is to teach you critical terminology you may not know unless you are a keen Literature student. Surely, though, it would be better to learn such diction from a dictionary rather than writings specific to one play?
