Product Description

Rae Wilder has problems. Supernatural creatures swarm the earth, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. Stalked by a handsome fairy who claims she is like him, demonkind, Rae thinks maybe it was a mistake breaking the rules by going over the Wall into demon territory. Plunged into a world of dark magics, fierce creatures, and ritual sacrifice, she is charged with a guarding a magical amulet. The changes to her mind and body are startling, but rather than accept her purpose she struggles against who she is destined to be. Throw in a big lust for a vampire who can't keep his hands off her, and life starts to get complicated. Rae is forced to make the ultimate choice: to live and die human, or embrace her birth-right and wield magics that could turn her into something wicked, a force of nature nothing can control.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea but 5 Nov 2010
By Caro
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've given this 2 stars, the first for the price (free) and the 2nd for the germ of a good book that is buried within.

It is obviously written for a teenage readership and the basic plot shows promise however it is in need of editing and polishing. Words are misused "rung" instead of "wrung", "fairies" appears where "fairy's" is clearly meant and I have no idea what "clocked" should have been - possibly looked? All this should have been corrected before publication.

The plot is somewhat repetitive; for example we are told that Rae doesn't like to be touched more often than necessary and there is lots of running through forests.

Some of the prose sounds like it would be more at home in a Mills & Boon than modern fantasy/horror - "Placing a hand on my hip, I clutched the other over my poor poor heart that may give out any day" is just one example.

Overall I've read worse but there is better fantasy out there Having said that as it is currently free you have nothing to lose by downloading and reading it for yourself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy read 9 Nov 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
I downloaded this book primarily as it was free and I am glad that I did. It is most definitely no literature classic but the tale in itself is engaging enough. The prose is simple in nature and very easy to read.

The book is set in a world of demons and humans and focuses on two days in the life of the main character Rae as she discovers her lineage and who she really is. Her life is complicated by her developing relationships between Breandan and Tomas.

The book is aimed at teenage girls but as a slightly older female it held my interest long enough to finish it at one sitting and I may even be tempted to buy the next book when it is published next year. (albeit that I was supposed to be studying and I found this book to be a welcome distraction)

I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy supernatural romantic themes.

Decided to buy this as I like Fantasy and was a snip at just under a quid. I wasn't expecting much but to my surprise I really enjoyed it. I really liked the mixture of humans, fey and Vampires in a world decimated by a strange plague and in which all things fey are seen to be demonic by the remainder of the human population, and therefore must be destroyed.

Enter Rae, a girl who thinks she is 18 and human but finds out otherwise and meet her friends and enemies, some want to kill her, some want to love her and some want to bind her.

A good Kindle Book and I will be buying the sequel when it comes out.
