Product Description
"Classic" and "Glamour" are the first two books in the "Erika Knight Collectables" series. With their unique hand-crafted appeal, these delightful project books hark back to grandmother's scrapbook, where all her favourite patterns would be gathered. Likewise, each of the 15 knitwear designs in these books are patterns that you will want to make and wear again and again. The projects in each book form a tightly focused capsule collection of easy-wear classic casuals and seductive glamour knits for the modern woman. "Classic" contains a beautiful collection of enduring wardrobe basics. Garments range from a quintessential sweater in aran cotton, to a perfect cashmere ballet cardigan. Whilst accessories include elegant gloves, scarf and wrap. All the designs are worked in a flattering palette of ecru, soft blues, muted greys and dusky pinks, as well as basic black. "Glamour" is a must-have portfolio of sensuous, sexy knits inspired by Hollywood sirens. The range includes a lacy knit shrug, a frill-neck tea top and an applique cardigan with three-quarter sleeves. The "Glamour" yarns are tactile and opulent: velvet chenille, flowing satin and sensuous silk. Whilst each book works independently as a brilliant collection of new projects they also complement each other perfectly. The front sections of the books contain full-colour photographs and the practical sections at the back give complete instructions and patterns, along with all the necessary techniques.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please save your money, 7 Nov 2007

I would say that if you are looking for a coffee table book in order to give inspiration of what can be done when knitting clothing items, then you may well be interested in this book. However, if you actually want to knit anything from it, you may want to think again. I have now completed two items from this book: the shrug and the cloche. The sleeves in the shrug were too short (granted I should've checked as was knitting) and the cloche was also too short. I have fixed it by crocheting on some extra length and it looks cute, but not what I'd expect to be required to do in order for a hat pattern to actually be serviceable (my partner thought it was a prayer cap!). Looking at other items in the book, such as the cardigan in kidsilk haze, those sleeves also appear too short. Another pattern (for the lace shrug) has a typo in the pattern, at least in the edition I bought. One of the other patterns uses snap closures hidden behind buttons, and instructions for lining are a bit slap dash. Whilst the materials used are lovely, and the photos are well thought out, I keep being disappointed by this book. The disappointment in the patterns is only outweighed by my misjudged expectations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice but not to die 4, 29 Oct 2007

Lovely book, nicely presented some pretty designs but not all massively practical!!(who wants a knitted bra top??) Some of the accessories may be difficult to replicate as vintage beads, clasps and gems have been used in a lot of cases. Nice to have but not one I will be returning to frequently!!
