More About the Author

Simon Scarrow's passion for writing began at an early age. After a childhood spent travelling the world he pursued his great love of history as a teacher, before becoming a full-time writer in 2005. Simon's Roman soldier heroes Cato and Macro first stormed the book shops in 2000, and Simon continues to create one new adult Roman novel each year. Simon has many other literary projects in hand including a young adult Roman series and THE SWORD AND THE SCIMITAR, an epic tale of the Siege of Malta in the sixteenth century. Simon Scarrow will do for boy gladiators what JK Rowling did for boy wizards. (waterstones.com)

About the Author

Simon Scarrow was born in Africa and lived in a number of countries, including Hong Kong and the Bahamas before settling in Britain. He has always been interested in writing and his love of history began at school, in particular when he was being taught about the ancient world by his Latin and History teachers. Since then he has travelled with his wife and children across the world to Italy, Greece, Turkey, Jordan, Syria and Egypt to research his historical novels. Simon was an enthusiastic teacher for a number of years. He now writes full time, but does intend to return to teaching when he can find the time.

I have read and enjoyed all Simon Scarrow's books and innocently bought the 1st in the Gladiator series, "Gladiator fight for freedom" it was soon apparent this was written for 10 year olds . I shall be more careful when buying Simon Scarrow in future!

A much awaited third book in the series. Lots of action and gore, so I wouldn't recommend it for pre-teens.

I have read a lot of Simon Scarrows books and I would say this is one of his top books, be the follow up of of Gladiator i really think he knew what he had in mind for the second book when he wrote the first the one, me being a boy a similar age to Marcus it is really easy for mr just understand what he is saying.
Top notch book
