ace as sticks! 21 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
john hegley is a fantastic poet... if you ever thought that you didn't like poetry or that it was a bit too heavy going then try reading some of this! its surreal yet very simple poetry set in incredibly real situations and very very funny! this book is a good introduction to hegley and affordable so i recommend everyone reading it.

By AndrewL94 VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Having heard John Hegley's laconic pronouncements on the wireless, I bought this book but was disappointed. The book comes across as a series of disjointed remarks with the odd rhyme thrown in.

As a standup, Hegley is quite amusing, and has an appealing persona. But written down his bons mots are strangely lifeless. They resemble bits of paper strewn about an untidy adolescent's bedroom. Your first impulse is to reach for the vacuum cleaner.

Funny! funny! funny! 16 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
Bought for me as a birthday present, I loved this collection of poems. I wear glasses myself so I could identify immediately with John Hegley's sentiments - particularly when I found out that I'm not the only person to have no interest in wearing contact lenses (make sure you read "Lying about your eyesight"). If you enjoy poetry that plays with words but at the same time tells a story about the everyday things in life, then this is for you.
