My son has just turned two and it is time to think about giving up the dodi. He is VERY attached so we knew it wasn't going to be an easy feat. I saw this 'Dummy Fairy' on Amazon but nearly didn't buy it because of some of the bad reviews. However, having had her for nearly a week now, I am so glad I didn't listen to the negative press! My son adores the little fairy and for the first day carried her everywhere with him. He loves the little pocket as well! Yes, the story is very short and simple, but this makes it perfect for little ones as the message is easy to understand. The illustrations are bright and fun to look at, giving us lots of things to talk about (he and I especially love the dummies hanging on the clothesline to dry in the dummy garden!). For now, he gives his dummy to the fairy when he gets out of bed. We hide it when he's not looking and when he checks again - it's gone! He knows that the dummy fairy will look after it all day. Just before bedtime (while he is in the bath) we put the dummy back into her pocket and he is amazed to find it there when he looks!! My little guy has now gone 5 days without the dummy during the daytime (even nap time is fine, amazingly) and soon the dummy fairy will take it for good and leave him a little present. This book and doll are a fantastic idea and a great way to bring the concept to life in a way that my son can not only understand, but also enjoy and be amazed at the dummy fairy's magic!
