A former atheist, once unshakably of the opinion that those who follow any religion must be deluded, suddenly finds himself praying like a man possessed to that far-away old codger in the sky that many call 'God'. 'GIVEN - A Very Personal Apocalypse' is a day-by-day diary written during a period of emotional and spiritual turmoil. During this time the narrator finds himself doubting his sanity, reliving key traumas in his life, suffering personal loss, experiencing dreams and visions of future events, and coming face-to-face with something truly terrifying. Raw, uncompromisingly frank, containing strong language and potentially disturbing themes, this is the story of a metaphysical journey through an allegorical hell as the diary's embittered author becomes evermore convinced that God and the Devil have been vying for his soul throughout his benighted life. “A harrowing and intimate account of spiritual destruction and redemption… written in stark and fierce language by a courageous author.” - Lu Lovelock, diarist and photographer. Being autobiographical fiction, and thus based on a true story, this novel contains adult themes and language. Reader discretion is advised.
Morris-Henshaw is a British man aged forty-something. Although not coy about his age, he describes himself as being forty-something so that he doesn't have to update his personal biography for nearly a decade.
For reasons thoroughly explained in his book, Morris-Henshaw has spent most of his life a chain-smoking, bar-crawling, belligerent cynic and vocal atheist. He began to discover his faith at the age of thirty-seven, which he readily admits was a long and confusing process involving one of those modern 'happy-clappy' Christian Churches you occasionally hear about, a whole bunch of down-to-earth, decent people...
...and some profanity.
Today - also for reasons thoroughly explained in his book - he feels that the Holy Spirit has transformed him into a dogged optimist and vocal Christian... albeit a chain-smoking, bar-crawling one.
He's not your typical member of The God Squad but then, as Morris-Henshaw has learnt, no one really is.
"GIVEN - A Very Personal Apocalypse" is his first book. A second is in the works.
