5.0 out of 5 stars Top Drawer R&B Compilation........, 28 Oct 2006
By TCH (Cambs, UK.) - See all my reviews
The peerless Soul Jazz label have excelled themselves with this absolutely superb compilation of the late 60's, early 70's R&B act. Every track is a gem bar the somewhat misjudged 'funkified' cover of McCartney's "Blackbird". The tracks have a strong funk base with powerful vocal leads (occasionally sounding like Patti Labelle in her mid-70's prime) and amazing group harmonizing supporting the lead, a sound that they consistently held too despite numerous personnel changes over the years. The most famous track is 'Give Me Your Love', a cover from Curtis Mayfield's brilliant "Superfly" soundtrack, which is a rare-groove stone classic which has often been described as proto-disco but that massively undersells it as it exhibits far more earthiness and passion than any disco track I can think of. The other tracks are slightly less distinctive sticking to an early 70's funky-soul template (with the emphasis on funk) but all are excellent bar the aforementioned McCartney cover. I'd go as far as to say this might be the best single artist R&B compilation I've ever bought (and I've bought quite a few) and the fact that it comes from such an obscure source is both a complete surprise and a tribute to the compilers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WANT MORE!, 13 Mar 2007
What is left to do when you have this cd and you have fallen in love with it? Google and try to find similar acts and I hate reasearch!!!
What I love the most about this music is the strong lead voice (indeed resembling at time Patti LaBelle) and the harmonizing, a thing that I just love. Try this, you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very underrated group, 23 May 2009
By M. Schneiderman (Orange County, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After listening to Sister Love's album, Give Me Your Love, it is difficult to understand why the group was not one of the biggest acts of the Seventies. Each song demonstrates the superb talent of the Sisters. Whether it's an uptempo tune such as "I'm Learning To Trust My Man" or something more mellow like "This Time Tomorrow" you will find listening to them a real treat. Give the Sisters a try and hear for yourself.
