Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Based upon a poem by Christina Rossetti this is a wonderful heart- warming story for Christmas. Two little girls' stories entwine as each must choose a special gift for someone very important.

The simple, lyrical text, which will be instantly recognisable, is perfectly complemented by the warm and colourful illustrations to create a touching reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

Product Description

Based on Christina Rossetti's poem "In the Bleak Midwinter", this is the story of two little girls, one living in the present and the other at the time of the birth of Christ, who worry about what they can give a very special person for Christmas.

Debi Gliori takes this very minimal touching poem and with the aid of superb illustrations expand the tale, and illustrates to young and old readers , the meaning of the poem. I found it to be an essential part of the Christmas season, a beautiful and inspiring way to teach our children that giving is not about what you give but on where it is coming from. The illustration tell a story in their on right, the more you look the more you discover. My daughter enjoys looking at the book, and eploring the illustrations- a truely fantastic book.

This book is much more than a children's picture book .It challenges reflection on the true meaning of Christmas ...the giving and receiving of the gift of love wrapped in swaddling bands and lying in a manger .
Two stories are linked through time in the pictures to two innocent children and their expression of love .
What can I give him poor as I am ? A question that arises annually through the simplicity of the beautiful illustrations of this timeless story and the words of "See amid the Winter's snow" I get it out each advent and eventually it sits beneath our Christmas tree as a must each Christmas
