'A Biography through Images is a compendium work, draped around a series of gorgeous photographs and reproductions of portraits, and containing a great deal of invaluable critical as well as biographical material... Lanza Tomasi is a shrew biographer and an insightful chronicler of the flourishing and decay of the culture depicted by Lampedusa in his great novel.' --Times Literary Supplement
