The features for this device are simply wrong - it is not suitable for "any USB compatible device" as stated.
It may well charge your iPod - I don't have one so I can't tell you if it will. I do have a three different Creative media players and it doesn't work with any of them. The problems range from constantly forcing the player back on when you turn it off, to simply not working at all. I don't think I'll risk plugging it into the smartphone I bought it for.
That said, it is so cheap that I can't even be bothered to send it back.
Buy something else.
