Product Description

Product Description

In 2011, three of the hottest female musicians on the contemporary blues scene embarked on a tour calling themselves "Girls with Guitars." Their appearances at clubs and festivals unleashed a wave of enthusiasm on both sides of the Atlantic. Nearly everyone involved – both audiences and the performers themselves - hoped the band wouldn't simply break up and fade into memory once the tour was over. The good news is starting in January 2012, the 8th edition of the annual Ruf Records Blues Caravan hit the road, this time under the heading "More Girls with Guitars." This document of the tour was recorded live at Musichall Worpswede (Germany) on February 11th, 2012. Kansas City native Samantha Fish may have been the least experienced member of last year's "Girls with Guitars" trio, but she quickly became a powerful presence at the very center of the show. Her performances lived up to - no, check that - surpassed all the pre-tour hype surrounding this rising star of the blues. Just 22 years old, Fish sings and plays at an astounding level of maturity. She made that clear on her debut album Runaway, released during Blues Caravan 2011 – a convincing blend of blues, boogie, rock and country. "Smoking, amped up blues/rock that just doesn't quit and keeps you coming back for more. Hot stuff." (MidwestRecord.com). Dani Wilde already has plenty of experience on the Caravan. 2012 will mark her third go-round on the tour. Like Samantha Fish, the native of Brighton, England is a true triple threat as a singer, guitarist and songwriter. She combines the intensity of the "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin with a rugged and unique fingering technique. She just released her third record Juice Me Up at Ruf Records in February 2012. "Wilde's soulful voice … conjures up both deep emotion and a real feel for the blues." (GetReadytoRock.com) Joining her from Brighton is Victoria Smith, a newcomer to the tour who will complement the "Girls with Guitars" on bass. This in-demand musician has already played in countless rock bands (including the popular punk outfit The Ramonas), but was originally inspired by the soul music of Motown Records and particularly by the revolutionary playing of Motown's bass legend James Jamerson. Considered one of Britain's finest young bass players, Smith will join the always dependable Blues Caravan drummer Denis Palatin in a top-flight rhythm section. If you were lucky enough to witness the "Girls with Guitars" – get ready for an evening of blues that is sure to be just as dynamic and musically compelling Disc 1 CD. Disc 2 DVD. Sound Format: PCM Stereo Picture Format: 16:9 Menu Language: English Running Time DVD: 89:29 min

5.0 out of 5 stars Look out Joe...you've got competition! 7 Sep 2012

I always look forward to a new release on Ruf,because this label is doing more than any other to keep the blues alive. You get a 12 track CD and 15 track DVD, which represents superb value for money. The music is low-down dirty blues rock from 3 very accomplished musicians. There's something for everyone , from the rocky opening track, Bitch, to the slow Mississippi blues of "Down in the Swamp", with every colour of the spectrum in between. It's often said that blues music is depressing.Watch this DVD and I guarantee you will NOT be depressed. Can't wait for their next tour. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars impressed 5 Oct 2012

I am impressed with this CD. You should get the CD/DVD package to appreciate Sam Fish and Dani Wilde's skills in full, but laready on the CD this comes out as a formidable group, and a totally enjoyable live album. If you like blues rock, this is of the highest caliber and I recommend to buy this right now. WHile you re at it also get Dani WIlde's (esp. the 3rd one) and Sam Fish's CDs. THese girls can play, sing, and they are not too bad looking either (;-) so ... GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh yes. Splendid! 23 Mar 2013

I bought this having been impressed with Ruf records outout, and enjoying the likes of Popovic, Shaw Taylor and Foley.
What a great trio!
Victoria Smith provides great bass.
Dani Wilde and Samantha Fish shine with both guitar prowess and vocals.
All bloody good tracks. Stand out? Fish with Leaving Kind.
But not much to choose between any track.
Thoroughly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Girls With Guitars Live (CD + DVD) 9 Dec 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A pleasing CD/DVD set - the girls obviously enjoyed themselves a lot in the live concert, as did the audience. Not something that I'd listen to very day but, for a spirit lifter I'll put the CD on, for a chuckle and feel good moment it's the "Extras" section of the DVD and a semi blushing Dani Wilde explaining some song-writing stimulus :)
