Golly! This brought it all back... The importance of keeping the front step tidy(ish) when all within is student slatterny (is there such a word?), The bizarrity (there's another) with which one unbelievable, and yet inevitable, thing pushes in upon another... And brought bang up to date with the noisome world of PR, the cacophony of email, and the pc use of 'they' instead of 'he' or 'she' (my black beast.)
Charlotte Ashby surely knows her PR stuff, and writes as though she has careered down each and every curious alley (but I guess that's because she is a good writer!)
This is a grand tale, a great and racy read: they've all been down this pit, from Hogarth to Hamilton, Rowlandson to Maclaren Ross. The sleeze as only the young on the London razzle can know it.
Buy this book, laugh, cry, wonder aghast, and laugh again... And then wait, bereft, for Charlotte Ashby's next book.

Fabulous read, particularly the brilliantly comedic dialogue. Loved all the characters, reminded me of my time living in London. The PR / office bits had me laughing out loud. They should make this into a film or TV series. When can we get the next instalment?

This has to be one of the most hilarious novels I have read in a while! Emily could certainly give Bridget Jones a run for her money in the hapless stakes! A most excellent, light-hearted read.

I haven't heard about Girls Like Us before and after reading it I am really not sure why. As soon as I have started reading this book I couldn't put it down and it had me in giggles in some of the most inappropriate moments, having people looking at me in a strange way. Don't read this on a bus/tube/etc as you will snort with laughter at the antics of our main heroes. Be warned :)
Girls Like Us is Charlotte Ashby's debut novel and I can tell you that I am already waiting for her next one!

Emily spends a lot of her time fuelled with booze and partying with her best friend Bella. They love to throw parties at their rented flat and it finally ends with an... yes, ASBO. She also works in PR and a lot of her work - time she spends disguised as mosquito and sending many press releases. One of her account for National Sausage Weeks goes belly up when not the right press release is being sent by Anoushka, Emily's working colleague, and well, it doesn't look good for Emily. But then her best mail - pal from radio steps in and saves the day and Emily's job.
The best mail - pal that Emily thought was a woman and used to send her emails telling everything what she used to do, and Emily tends to do many embarrassing things. Jemima turns out to be a Jeremy and have a girlfriend, and in some way or other Emily finds herself with her so - called boyfriend Charlie to be a guest of Jeremy, and his father in their mansion up North.

Oh my God, I can't tell you more about the plot because it is packed with action and there is something new happening on every page and I don't want to spoil this book for you!

I cannot recommend this book enough. Ridiculously funny story-line yet embarrassingly relatable, it left me nearly in tears with laughter. A very quick and easy read. NEEDS to be made into a film!!

On the face of it, 'Girls Like Us' is an open heart romping rom-com giving you an avatar feel for the PR world, but as you read through the twists and turns of Emily's booze fuelled adventures there is definitely some earthy feminist vibes going on. It's a great mixology of love, disaster, partying and some worthy thoughts on ones career path!
