Not a "miss" in sight,
By
This review is from: The Girls Are At It Again - UK Beat Girls 1964-1969 (Audio CD)
Having bought just about every girl group CD there is, I was rather skeptical about this one, as usually these "must have" compilations have about 50/50 balance of good and bad tracks and I end up buying them anyway only to find why most of the tracks stayed hidden! Also I hadn't heard of most of these singers and I ask myself WHY NOT! This is really worth the money, 90% of the tracks deserved to have been a hit record. Great to hear Kiki Dee Miracles on CD (why WON"T they issue a collection of her Philips sides?) Girl group fans, buy this you won't be disappointed!

The Girls Are Great Again,

This review is from: The Girls Are At It Again - UK Beat Girls 1964-1969 (Audio CD)
I take my hat off to the record companies for finding and compiling these obscure 60s singles, which would almost certainly not have come to the attention of those of us who were around at the time. This CD comprises 20 tracks of mostly unknown, mostly British, girl singers, with a smattering of better known names, such as Diana Dors, Kiki Dee, Lesley Duncan, The Caravelles - and Luan Peters, who I vividly remember in several pneumatic film roles in the 60s. I didn't know that she also made records under the name of Karol Keyes! The original records seem to be from the Polydor and Fontana labels and they all sound pretty good to me. It's 60s British pop as you would expect it. There's an informative booklet with photos of some of the artists and of the records themselves. I also see it's on the Eclipse label. I remember Eclipse as a budget, easy listening label, so this has to be the best release ever from Eclipse.

At long last it's finally here! I think this was originally scheduled to come out in 2006 and i feared it may never come out.Worth the wait, for anyone who has bought the Dream Babes compilations and loves the British take on the girl pop sound of the 60s.Great range of styles, good sleevenotes, can we have a volume 2?
