Book Description

This is a passionate and deeply erotic memoir that takes us through the life of a sex blogger. There are plenty of filthy chapters, as we follow Girl on the Net through illicit teenage masturbation to fetish clubs, online dating, sex parties and the terrifying horrors of love.
It's a memoir that is unashamed about sex, and keen to sweep away the assumptions we make about it. This book is about desire, love, BDSM, and what people do when the sex stops and you have to fight over the washing up. Above all it's an honest account of the sexual mistakes that make us all human.

"This book is like Twilight, if Twilight was about sex instead of Vampires and didn't hate women." - Martin Robbins, author of 'The Lay Scientist' at the Guardian

"This is the thinking gentleman/woman's filth, and will equally delight and disgust you. It is a frank and honest, which are two of the best qualities for a memoir to be, in my opinion." - BookCunt

More About the Author

Girl on the Net is a feminist sex blogger. Born in the south of England, Girl on the Net travelled around a bit studying Philosophy and amassing a spectacular collection of bad habits before settling down in London. She now lives in a small flat with a hoard of books and an impressive selection of dirty coffee cups, and aspires to be the sort of person who visits museums at the weekends.

During the week you might spot her at comedy nights or science talks, and on Friday nights she'll likely be the first person in the pub, ringing everyone else to see where they've got to. If you happen to meet her in real life and think you know who she is, please don't let on. Like most people, she's far more fun on the internet.

Honest, uplifting, sexy, hilarious and seriously hot.

GOTN (of the amazing blog [...]) takes the reader through her life, the ups and downs, the boys, the frantic masturbation and mind-blowing sex weaving in subtle morals, messages and advice. This beautifully written memoir of an anonymous twenty-something is a must read for everyone. Except her mum.

Feminism, autobiography, heartbreak, sexual obsession, erotic submission and tales of Japanese S&M etiquette: these are not a list of topics that I'd find in most books I read - maybe I'm reading the wrong books, but I'll let you decide on that.

Girl on the Net: My Not-So-Shameful Sex Secrets had me hooked from the start. It's an autobiographical tale of one girl's journey from teenage sexual awakening (brought about by the discovery of a well-thumbed book of erotic literature) to full-on sexual adventurer and explore of all things that make her go "uurgh". And it's a massively engaging read, not just because of the nature of the content but because it's so well written. If you've not read Girl on the Net's blog or followed her on Twitter, you really should. She really knows what she's talking about.

The content is very explicit - not a good gift for God-fearing Great Aunt Mabel, that's for sure - but it's Girl on the Net's dry, dark humour that really brings these stories alive. I read the book on a Kindle on my daily commute on the train and found myself in equal parts entertained, aroused, educated, amused and enlightened. I wish I'd been able to read this book 20 years ago when I was a shy retiring student. I'd have been so much better educated about what makes an intelligent, witty, sexy girl tick - and I'd have truly understood that geeky definitely doesn't have to mean dowdy. There's a deeply feminist tale leading throughout this book and it really shows how a womn's desire for equality is in no way mutually exclusive from her strong desire to dress up in stockings and have her bum spanked. They are too sides of a modern, 21st century woman. And this book really brings that message to life in the most vibrant and eloquent way.

You will experience every emotion reading this epic account of one fantastic lady's sexual escapades, from her blossoming adolescence to her rich tapestry of an adulthood. Funny, charming, painful and above all, honest. A prose style that will keep you on your feet; or as it did in my case, firmly under the duvet when you have pressing 'grown up' things to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly filthy 28 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Refreshingly honest and straightforward, and deliciously sexy. GOTN talks about all the things women aren't supposed to talk about or lust after and has me emphatically nodding my head in agreement over and over again. Loved it - I hope there will be a follow-up soon, but luckily I have her blog to keep me going until then.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, not weird. 27 May 2013

I loved the raw honesty, the visceral truth that girls do enjoy sex, that it doesn't have to be prom-dress pretty, or porn-star posed. Nice and sleazy does it every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply stupendous! 31 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have been a fan of GOTN's work for some time . She is achingly honest, and always manages to keep her works light hearted and fun in her approach.

It doesn't matter what your kick is (or even if you have a kick) - this book is very well written, with vivid imagery and a personal touch that may be lacking from more popular works. £3.60 is an absolute pittance to pay for something this good. BUY IT ALREADY.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... 17 Jun. 2013
By Alex S

Excepting people I know, there are very few bloggers I read religiously, and since Belle de Jour unmasked, none of them were sex bloggers - because more than any other field it's so easy to rub someone up the wrong way (pun somewhat intended) by being too twee/po-faced/boring/outlandish/icky/creepy about sex. And then I found GotN who, like Belle, just seemed like if she wasn't secretly someone I knew, she very easily could be. I'd say only about a fifth of her memoir is material from the blog, and that reads very differently in context. The overall effect is oddly reminiscent of Montaigne - a charming fascination with small details, a ready admission of the writer's faults, an oddly comforting certainty that we'd probably all get along a bit better if we just accepted how peculiar we all are underneath. Except, y'know, Montaigne doesn't talk quite so much about spanking.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY. 30 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If asked yesterday morning what can spending £3.60 can do, I'd probably say "not much". However, I then bought this book. This book, as well as being brutally honest made me feel warm inside. Not only does it set out to correct all the preconceptions that people (wrongly) have about sex, it's funny, emotional and REAL. If this book had been around when I had "the talk" with my mum, it would have made my life - and hers - a lot easier.

This book is says what people think in their heads. It's reassuring to know you're not alone, or weird or a freak. Whether you share the experiences within or are just curious, it's completely brilliant. Everybody should buy copy or three; it's feminist, powerful and reassuring. It's AMAZING.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest, fun, readable, filthy
A fun read, reiterating time and time again, that we're all weird (and that's ok) and that girls love sex as much as anyone else, despite what the media says. Worth every penny.
