Ian Hendry and Ronald Fletcher are in top form in this murder mystery from the early 1960's. The cast contains many other familiar faces from that era (including Kieron Moore, Patrick Holt, Natasha Parry, Jane Asher) and the remastering is excellent. If you're a fan of b/w 50's/60's murder mysteries this one is well worth a watch!!!

This film has stood the test of time in many respects and is typical of its genre. I enjoyed it very much, although I did spot one instance where one character speaks to another using his real name, rather than the character's name. Only a minor slip and hardly noticeable. As there is no extraneous violence or swearing, this could be something for many of the family to watch - although, of course, not the under 12's!

A complex storyline played at a good pace with many twists and turns. In his search for the murderer of renegade young female model drug addict, Chief Inspector Birkett (Ian Hendry), along with his good tempered and amusing sidekick Sergeant Saunders (Ronald Fraser), find themselves immersed in something more sinister and expansive involving the smuggling of cocaine.

Fine acting by a well chosen cast that includes Jeremy Brett before he became the second definitive Sherlock Holmes (after Basil Rathbone), along with the young Jane Asher in a minor role as Birkett's daughter. You'll also enjoy the appearance of Rosalie Crutchley in another minor role as Maude Klein: compare her more demonic role in "A Tale of Two Cities" (A Tale Of Two Cities (Special Edition) [DVD]) as Madame Defarge (also featuring Dirk Bogarde as Sydney Carton).

Excellent value for money by any standards.

Very much the sort of film I used to enjoy in my younger years when films were a large part of entertainment. The story line is very good and all well acted, and total lack of computerised gimicks. The added advantage for me is the soundtrack includes the voice of a young Elizabeth Vaughan who went on to be one of my favourite opera singers.
