Biography

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. She rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's ... Read more in Amazon's Madonna Store

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Song, awful promotion. 15 May 2012

Ok so this song isnt in the league of Hung Up or Ray Of Light, but compared to the last efforts over the past few years from Madonna (Miles Away, Give It 2 Me, Revolver, Celebration), this is as good as it is going to get im afraid! And that is a real shame... for reasons unknown to her fans or indeed anyone outside of her management, there seems to have been a major shift in the way Madonna the music brand has been served to the general public, and i for one do not like it one bit!

Madonna was always greater than than the sum of her parts if you will, she was always about the whole package, videos, mixes, singles, posters, you name it when a single came out we were there to buy EVERY format and remix, as a result we sent her hurtling toward the top 10, almost indefinatley. But things seem to have gone very wrong. How? Why? Its simple really, her new uber cool label which includes Lady GaGa, has chosen NOT to promote or publicise or indeed release Madonna's singles here in the UK in line with the UK chart rules; instead Interscope chose to tie in the debut single release with a free album pre order give away, which immediatley rendered it unable to chart... did a major label like Interscope overlook that small fact? adding to that the inconsistentcy in its actual release date (Friday anyone?) and zero promotion, and basically we have the recipe for a major flop, bad press and a knock on effect to the album as radio will only play hit songs that are current in the chart! The whole thing then spirals downward like a stack of dominoes... and they have, all the singles and the album, out of the charts within weeks. But this is Madonna!!! What the hell are they doing?!

And so we reach the albums second single, Girl Gone Wild... or IS it the second single? My radio station has been playing Masterpiece since March stating it to be Madonna's new single... confused yet? You will be... Girl Gone Wild was then slated on here as being released May 14th, however i randomly looked at itunes on friday the 12th and there for sale was the digital remix EP! Minus 2 remixes that were available every where else and the whole bundle was double the cost of anywhere else too! To top that off, the video for the song was available on itunes over a month ago without ANY promotion and the CD Maxi (you gotta buy an import, we aint getting it) and 12" are to be released WEEKS after the digital remix bundle (we didnt actually get the digital single); so add all that mess with the brilliant idea of no promotion, not even an email from her App to state any of this new material was out there! and you really do have a flop on your hands, well it isnt even a flop! I am astounded to be honest... The formats are released weeks sometimes months apart, no prior warning or promotion... ZILCH! Why is she even bothering to release the music if thats how she feels?! Its obviously to much trouble!

I am absolutley astounded that a star of her magnitude can sit back and let this happen, it makes no sense whatsoever, and if it does you can bet its got something to do with money. Under Interscope Madonna will never have a top 10 single in the UK again, because this ridiculous way of giving the public access to her music just is not accessible to the rest of the population. We still require music to hear to decide wether a tour would be worth visiting, wether an album would be a wise investment. And her silly comments about putting the tour first are rubbish, if that were the case all of her previous albums would be flops too, and they arnt! Despite touring at the same time. Such a shame.

The management of the singles and album has been quite frankly, awful! It begs the question wether Madonna really does care about her music anymore, shes always stating that it is always about the music, rubbish! Maybe someone is at the helm at Interscope records, hell-bent on ruining her astonishing legacy?! A Lady GaGa fan? She does share that label and her idiotic fans will go to great lengths to demonise anyone who openly criticises her.

Still I am completely dumbfounded as to why Madonna is letting this happen to her chart career, it is a sad shame, and worse of all it really doesnt need to be like this! All it takes is ALL single formats to be released simultaneously, on a proper sales week day (MONDAY!), and a little airtime or promo in the form of magazine or radio interviews, it is that simple! It worked for 30 years anyway! And shes had time to promote a duff movie and perfume!

Sadly, the truth is Interscope seem to be doing things their way with what seems to be Madonna's permission, and they are destroying her legacy as they go... Maybe Madonna needs to get her head out of her wallet and start assessing the people she is paying to promote her a bit more! Because at this rate, nobody will even care to see her live, especially when they dont even realise her music exists anymore! VERY sad day for Madonna fans. I cant wait for this era to be over. I'd sooner she retired than let idiotic record companies treat her music like this, it is an insult to the fans who spent their money to make her what she is.
