Product Description

Review

Wittily illustrated, this is a delightful story
-- The Independent on Sunday

`It is like a gentle successor to Hilare Belloc'
-- The Observer

`Sarah Dyer's unique and quirky illustrations suit the story perfectly. The humans are bristling with life and emotion, whilst all the different birds are a joy to pore over . . . A fantastic book for any child on the cusp of reading'

I bought this after reading a review in the times, I have trouble getting my daughter to brush her hair so thought this would help. Its a nice story, in rhyme, but it doesnt scan too well as a poem, i added bits in myself. It has a nice couple of pages with lots of different types of birds and their names, so good for learning birds, I bought the hardback which is nice quality, I think I like this book more than my daughter does!!

This book is wonderful and could be a very useful tool if you have a child that dislikes having their hair brushed or combed? The little girl in this story also hates that hairbrush and is, at first, delighted when some little birds mistake her hair for a birds nest. Settling in they attract some other friends, but it is when mum takes her to the farm that the problems really begin! Eventually, of course, she is crying for mum to sort out the problem. This is a very funny story and, as Sarah Dyer usually adds in a little extra learning possibility to her books, there is a lovely illustrated list of all the birds, with names, that are in the story. Very good value.

I bought this to read to my 3 year old daughter as they were doing the theme at her nursery school. She loves it I have to read it more than once every night. She also likes to go through all the birds on the front page. I would definetly reccomend this. Although it is short and sweet you don't mind reading it over and over again. The Girl with the Bird's-nest Hair

I love this book and so does my 4-1/2 year old daughter who has hair just like the story's main character - it must have been based on her! So much so, she now lets me brush her hair, and she also won best costume for World book Day (crazy hairband made for this)! A fabulous, fun book, with gorgeous and quirky illustrations - definitely recommended :)

Both my 4 year old daughter and I love this book... the story is fun with a cautionary tale, the poem gives the story a good rhythm and the illustrations are a delight (especially the bird spotting pages at the beginning and end!)We regularly read this book and we enjoy it again and again, time after time.

I bought 2 of these for 2 little girls who didnt like having their hair brushed and hence looked like birds nests!! When they read that birds may actually want to nest in their hair, they changed their minds!!
