5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good 26 Jan 2011
By Evan VINE VOICE

I received this yesterday and it looks and feels very solid indeed. A mate of mine had bought the model down and has had it for a while and it seemed very versatile and fit for purpose.

It's heavy but not overly so. If weight is an issue you might want to go for a carbon fibre one. However, you'd probably need weight support anyway if shooting in windy or uneven surfaces. One of the reasons I went with this MTL9361B is because of the weight. I wanted a sturdy and solid tripod.

It works a treat. A quick glance over the instructions was all that was need but it's fairly simple to figure out of it all works. The centre column rotates and also comes out so you can fix the head straight to the tripod if you wish.

All in all it's great so far. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and superb quality! 18 Feb 2011
Recently I have tried several tripods, all the sold brand names, but with a budget of 200 for legs and head, nothing was coming up solid enough. I am a landscape and macro photographer, so I needed a decent quality but I was not willing to spend 500 - I have my eye on a new piece of glass. I did a great deal of searching and testing, a great deal! I thought I was going to have to up my budget until I saw a recommendation for this and bought one. It was a superb purchase, yes it is a little weighty but it is so well made, absolutely rock solid, great quality. I already had a Manfrotto 222 head, and this fits and works perfectly. It is a great joy to find tripod of this quality for such a great price. If I was bring hyper critical I would liked to have had longer foam leg covers that reached down the whole length of the first section but I suppose I will treat myself to a set on the money I saved. Highly recommend this tripod!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect mix of price and quality 24 May 2012
Verified Purchase
I had been looking to upgrade my tripod for quite some time now and like many of you, was looking for that mix of good solid quality, without the silly price tag. Well folks - this is it.
I found this at the Focus on Imaging exhibition in Birmingham in March 2012, demonstrated to me by the Giottos team. It is solid without being too heavy and also has the benefit of the moveable centre column. I was recommended by the Giottos salesman NOT to buy it at the show as it could be found cheaper online - which i thought was very good of him, considering i was happy with the price he quoted. So finally found it on here and bought it - and what a good move that was. Use it 3 - 4 times a week on average and LOVE it. I use it with the 652 ball head Giottos GTMH1311-652 Ball and Socket Head with Friction Control and it is an amazing combination. It is SO easy to make adjustments with the ball head and the use of a separate friction control allows you to decide on the mix of hold and movement to suit your needs.
If you are looking for a quality, pro-level tripod at a decent price (this tripod AND ball head combination for less than 200 ) , then your search is over - buy this one !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tripod for the money 21 Nov 2012

Bought this tripod as the leg on my old tripod was unstable and decided I needed a new one before the thing collapsed with my camera on it, unfortuantly the ball head was also showing signs of slipping so having to buy a new tripod and ball head at the same time meant I had to watch the and get the best I could afford. I checked a few reviews and this tripod was getting great reviews so i opted for this paired with the Giottos 652 ball head. The first tripod arrived with a broken centre colume knob which alarmed me to begin with but I put it down to the fact that it could have happened with any tripod perhaps during packaging and Amazon were great and replaced it promptly which made me glad I had went with Amazon and not any other smaller company.
It seems to be a very sturdy tripod though I have only used it so far in the studio and haven't had the chance to expose it to the elements, it is quite heavy with the ball head attached but I like weight in my tripods so this suits me but might not suit someone who is carrying it across country, the ball head is fantastic much better than my old one and rock solid only problem is the head has 3 controls and the tripod has 3 controls so I sometimes get myself tied in knots with all the controls.
For the money I am very pleased with this tripod setup and would recommend it to anyone like myself who needs to watch the pennies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tripod 20 April 2012

I looked around for a reasonably priced sturdy instrument that was actually slightly heavier than a carbon fibre one. This one came highly recommend by a well known photography magazine. It is beautifully made and works very well.
