Although I have given the HF1 only 2 stars, let me start by saying what's good about this controller. I want to look at it from both sides to give you a decent, balanced review without any bias.

Good points:
^^^^^^^^
The material that this controller is made from is fantastic. It's grippy and yet it's also nice to touch to the point where it almost feels silky. Personally I also like the look of the controller; it has a good scheme and style to look at. Even the part that displays the controller connection number looks cool!

The control sticks look and feel nice and are located in good positions to minimise strain in your hands. The L2/R2 triggers are great, if a little stiffer than on an Xbox 360 controller. There is a turbo setting you can use to save you hammering away at a button yourself, or if you want to "cheat" when using a semi-automatic weapon in a FPS game. There is also a switch that "switches" the commands for the L1/R1 buttons with the L2/R2 triggers, which could be helpful for people who are used to the Xbox 360 controls. The Home button has a nice, sleek and unobtrusive design.

Unlike some other 3rd party controllers, the Gioteck HF1 has Bluetooth and doesn't need a USB dongle. I haven't had any issues with "lag" that some other people have commented on.

Bad points:
^^^^^^^
Considering that Gioteck are marketing the HF1 as a controller designed to aid gamers playing FPS games, I am shocked by the size of the deadzone in each of the control sticks. In FPS games, you need to regularly make small adjustments to your aim and this is made extremely difficult by the deadzone in the control sticks.

I have tried quite a few different controllers as an alternative to the DS3 as I personally find the DS3 a little on the small side. My HF1 arrived this morning and I have had a few hours gameplay with it so here are my thoughts so far:

Advantages:

- I have found the controller to be comfortable, almost on par to the X360 controller.
- Solid build, doesn't feel like it's made out cheap plastic, also has a nice feel to it.
- The trigger button's R2 + L2 are excellent, even better than the X360's trigger.

Disadvantages:

- There is a small amount of lag, it's only small but still noticeable.
- In the manual it says you can use a Gioteck rechargeable battery pack but I have searched for UK retailers who sell this and can't find any. Would have thought Gioteck would make this readily available at the same time as the release of the controller.
- As this is a third-party controller there is a small risk that it will become disabled in future PS3 firmware updates.

The controller was tested with Black Ops.

Update: After now testing the controller for a few days I am changing my review to 5/5. The reason being is I have tried the game on single player on BLOPs & Fifa 11 and there is no lag at all, which leaves me with the presumption the lag I was getting was online rather than to do with the controller. Also there shouldn't be a risk with the firmware update as it doesn't use a usb dongle. The battery pack is apparently available early next year, have bought some 2700mah rechargeable batteries though so shouldn't be a problem. Well done Gioteck, great product!

I own a ps3 and a 360. I'm a 45 year old gamer, and so not into the whole fanboy my console is better than yours arguement. having said that I find the dualshock to be a badly designed piece long overdue an overhaul from its orginal playstation origins. The ps3 is the superior machine and I use it for all my multimedia requirements and blu ray movie viewing, and the odd ps3 exclusive that may interest me, next one being Resistance 3.
All other gaming is done on the xbox, as the controller is far superior, sits in the hands nicely and has the control sticks in far better positions , and of course real triggers! (whats with some ps3 games not letting you change from the R1 button for primary fire? I really dislike that!)
Anyway the HF1 seemed to be the answer, the one that was going to bridge the gap, I took it out of the box and thought yes! it feels good in the hands , well placed control sticks, proper triggers, and oh yes a switch which allows you to flip primary fire to the r2 trigger! It was beginning to look like I wouldnt need my xbox anymore!
Nope! big fail gioteck, the design is great but my god the quality is terrible! and the deadzones! precise aiming is impossible in COD the lag is rediculous, I tried it on vanquish and when you move the right stick my character would'nt move, then would start and not stop when I took my thumb off the stick. Response times to button pressing was poor, possibly due to the sticky nature of the buttons.
so needless to say it was returned to the shop where I bought it and the refund will be spent on Dead Space 2 for the xbox.

So the xbox remains my gaming machine of choice, the ps3 my multimedia centre, I will get Resistance 3 for it , ironically the gioteck real trigger attachments help improve the dualshock a lot, and with Resistance you can switch to R2 for primary fire..but that'll be the only game for me on the ps3 this year..
Unless the HF2 resolves these issues!!
