Book Description

Jun 2003
No one captures cats better than Charlotte Voake! In this prequel to GINGER, a forlorn feline is coaxed inside by a little girl - and finds a new life as a beloved pet.

Once there was a little orange cat who was so scrawny that his tail was like a piece of string. He lived in a patch of weeds, and every night he had to scrounge for food to eat - until one day when, suddenly, everything changed. In this tender tale, Charlotte Voake’s delicate, sprightly illustrations offer a glimpse of the star of GINGER as he first meets the little girl who earns his trust and takes him home.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect, beautiful book 27 Oct 2004
I can't believe that no-one has reviewed this lovely book before. It's one to treasure. There is a perfect balance of simple, evocative text and sparse, sensitive illustrations. The simple story of how a lonely stray cat is adopted by a little girl becomes poetry in the hands of the writer and typesetter. My two year old understood the drama and poignancy of the story at the first telling. As an adult, I've yet to tire of it.
Up there with the best of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ginger has a happy home! 5 Aug 2014
By ED Farr
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Part of a set about Ginger the cat. My 4 year old loves these books (secretly so do I). The pictures are clear and colourful, the words are simple enough to use a part of a learning to read series, but also flows well enough as a bed time story. All children need to have this book and their sequels on their reading list.
