Book Description

Alleycat knows more about magic than he was ever meant to, but you’d never guess to look at him. When the head witch steals two new-born kittens from under their mother’s nose, he’s called out of retirement to put things right. But he doesn’t know that the witch’s secret agent is living in his house, and no one’s told him that the skullion rats are swarming along the sewers and getting ready to attack him. The witches have always feared Alleycat and this could be their one and only chance to get rid of him forever; and with him out of the way they can move in and take over.

More About the Author

Hello, I'm George Collingwood, children's author, living in Worcestershire, England. My webpage is

I was born in the nineteen sixties in a Northern town. I remember tin baths in front of the fire and watching Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell play Doctor Who on a black and white telly. When I was twenty four I moved South. My cats are Pink, Bamber and Alleycat. Teddybear cat doesn't show his face much any more, but he'll probably come back eventually.

The Ginge Club started when I bought an old, interesting house on Six Foot Way, in the Five Streets district of Dimchurch Spire. After I moved in, I realized that there was already a cat living in the house and this cat knew more about its secret places and weird ways than any other creature. That cat was Alleycat, and Alleycat's life and times have inspired the stories of the Ginge Club

Super, fast-moving story for older children, of cats, rats, magic powers, a witch in the background and dank and dingy sewers ...
Simply good fun to read and should work its powers on the target audience.
This reviewer's rather older but had an enjoyable time with Alleycat, Bamber, Pink, Snatcher and the Rat Pack ...
Obviously set for a sequel or even a series, and could do well.

I enjoyed the story about cats battling evil and their own power battles, all unknown to the people who they live with. Was a bit surprised when it ended - seemed like a lot of the plot was left hanging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than "Warriors"! 13 May 2013

Yes, I said it, and I meant it. There are an interesting group of kitty characters, some sweet, some evil, some trying to be good and save the world, the world being their garden. There are some humans ... and there are a few witches. Oh and also Rats! Lol This book has them all interwoven into a little a neighborhood ... I enjoyed it :0)
