Book Description

24 May 2012
IN 2012, THE DIAMOND JUBILEE YEAR, HER MAJESTY'S DIARIES ARE OPENED AT LAST...

'Had a quick run-through of the opening ceremony. One wanted to call it "The Empire Strikes Back" but it was generally felt that might intimidate the smaller nations.'

Queen of sixteen sovereign nations, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. She's one of the world's most well-known and powerful leaders and has reigned for 60 years. But what does she really think?

'One does enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest. Lovely to be reminded how much more civilized the British are than our European neighbours. Royal Eurovision Fancy Dress Party to celebrate. Unfortunately Camilla misread the invitation as 'Euro-tunnel Fancy Dress Party' and came as a train.'

Taking in the momentous events of 2012, including the Jubilee celebrations and preparations for the London Olympics, these diaries reveal the seldom-seen workings of state and reveal how an octogenarian is quietly ruling the world and still has time for a gin.

Review

'Our favourite tweeter is publishing her diary. Here's The Queen (of Twitter's) guide to festive etiquette.' (Marie Claire )

'Witty and irreverent peeks at the innermost thoughts of the Royal Family.' (Choice )

'The clever folk at Hodder & Stoughton have teamed up with the mystery person behind the tweets to create a new book, naturally called Gin O'Clock, purporting to be the secret diary of Elizabeth Windsor.' (Bar Magazine )

'It's the sort of book to leave beside the loo, a jokey compilation you can dip in and out of - though I will be reading it from cover to cover, grinning from ear to ear because of its sharp, quick-witted and always apt sending-up of people with a public life.' (foodepedia (blog) )

'easily one of the funniest fictional Twitter accounts' (Styleandthensome (blog) ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Funny! 25 Oct 2011
By KT-T
Format:Hardcover
As a total technophobe, a friend of mine had to point out the Twitter account "@Queen_UK" that this is a spin off from........and I have been following her majesty ever since!! Loving the fact the HRH appears to be a drinker and thinker like the rest of us!!
Was slightly concerned that the book might be a padded out version...but it's not...it's hilarious!....a really easy pick-up and put-down book, that actually made me giggle out loud at times....and I'm a fairly harsh critic....
Can highly recommend....good to lend to your mates and am strongly considering a bulk order for Christmas prezzies...would get a lot sorted in one go....

5.0 out of 5 stars Long live the Queen 23 Oct 2011
By Jon C
Format:Hardcover
I've followed @Queen_Uk for the last two years and was delighted to hear that this book was coming out.

I found it an excellent read building substance and depth to the themes from twitter. If you follow @Queen_Uk and find it funny then this book is a must. If you don't use Twitter this is still a very funny stand alone book.
Long live the Queen!

Gin anyone?

5.0 out of 5 stars Must be Gin O'Clock 20 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
Funniest book I have read for years. My favourite characters are Nick Clegg and Camilla. Agree with Her Majesty that Philip Schofield should be Prime Minister.
